Dabo isn't on the hot seat. His job is as secure as anyone's in college football.
Regarding Fulmer, Tennessee had slipped under his watch. From 1995-1999, they finished in the top 10 every year, including a national championship. But in 2000, they were 8-4 and a fringe top 25 team. They had a great year the following year in 2001, finishing in the top 5 again. But the next year they finished 8-5 and unranked. The next two years were 10-3 seasons where they finished around 15th in the final poll. However, in 2005 they had a losing season. In 2006, they were 9-4 and barely finished in the top 25. In 2007, they were 10-4 and finished 12th. In 2008, his last year, they were 5-7.
If you consider their elite status in the mid-late 90s, and only one top 10 finish in the 9 years that followed, it makes sense why they decided it was time to go in a new direction. The program had clearly dropped off.
If Dabo has a handful of seasons where we finish unranked, I'm sure he will start to feel some heat as well. And why shouldn't he? Expectations are naturally going to be based on what we've shown we are capable of achieving in the recent past. It certainly doesn't mean that we should be unrealistic, nor do we want to be like Tennessee since then. I would argue that Tennessee's issue wasn't firing Fulmer as much as it was making some bad coaching hires since then. The right coach would've gotten Tennessee back to being a top 5-10 program.

Fulmer in ANY way. You couldn't HAVE two more disparate personalities, or ways of running a football program.

At one point, Fulmer was god. Then, he started getting doubts when things came down a bit.... but he still had job security. Then, a few years later, he was on the hot seat.
Dabo was God.... now many Clemson people are comfortable taking shots at him as if he's not the same guy. That was Fulmer at one point. The next phase, which I hope doesn't happen, would be a year or two with 8/9/10 win seasons and not in playoff discussion.
It's a fork in the road for the program. I'm not expecting us to be back in the playoffs next year.... then you can come back and better understand why I posted this now.
