have said "not interested" to Alabama's advances? I would never have expected they would have this much trouble landing a coach.

Any choice is already going to have a tough time following Saban, but especially if he doesn't actually leave.

Well, Frank Howard kept an office in Jervey for many years so I guess maybe it isn't all that unusual for some legendary coaches who are just personally embedded into the university and culture.

I think most well established coaches don't want to risk ruining their own brand by not living up to Saban. Especially if they are already making close to top dollar.
Deboer makes sense because he is well known now, but not as established as someone like Dabo, Kirby, Lanning, etc. The risk/reward for him would make more sense. He can likely double (or close to it) his salary while having a chance to make a bigger name for himself. If it doesn't work out, he can still walk away with more money than he would have made at Washington.

I don't know anything about him. The big key is does he have contacts throughout the South for recruiting purposes? Yes, Bama is the absolute pinnacle of college football but they had some rough years before Saban.

It's not a job for everybody, and I think most potential hires know that,

and understand the challenges they will face. It's a dream job for the right guy; it don't get no better. But for a lot of otherwise good coaches and good people, it would be an absolute nightmare, even with a big paycheck.

going after. Agents lie to schools, coaches and use it all - including 'leaks' - for leverage in any way they can. So many of those coaches who supposedly moved away from Alabama may not have gotten anything but a courtesy call in the first place, or no call at all. Or maybe they all got offered.
There's just no absolute truth in any of this.
