How many on here have ancestors that fought for our independence from Great Britain?
On my father’s side, mine enlisted in Johnston County, NC and fought in the battle of Cowpens. My mother’s side was in Charleston at the time and were mariners.

He created a map of North and South Carolina that was used by George Washington and other American revolutionaries. He also fought in the war, distinguishing himself at the Battle of Black Mingo. He was Francis Marion's first cousin and best friend.

but the first known Treese in America John Treese fought in the Revolutionary War. His widow got a pension since he lost his thumb. The pension is recorded in the Library of Congress according to my uncle.

First known ancestor was in the Virginia colony in 1679. I'm 10th generation born in the USA as the song goes. Approximately 30 grandsons and great grands of that ancestor served in the Revolution, although in my line it was a 9th ? great uncle. My direct descendent only supplied corn for Washington's army.
Based on research aince 1955 by Don Collins, who wrote several family books and hosts a fantastic family website.

My 4th Great Grandfather, Richard Addis was a scout, horseman and foot soldier during the Revolutionary War. He was born in Pennsylvania grew up in Union district (near Ninety Six), he was at Eutaw Springs, Stono Ferry, where he lost his horse, saddle and bridle. His pension papers say he was paid in sterling for his horse and gear. He was at Cowpens and many other engagements. He also was on at least 2 Indian Engagements prior to the Revolutionary War in Georgia and current day Lake Keowee.
After Congress passed the Revolutionary War Pension Act, he started getting a pension in 1832 when he was approximately 83 years old. He lived to the age of 88
My 5th Great Uncle, Simon Addis, my 4th Great Grandfathers half-brother (different mothers due to death) was a Revolutionary War Captain in the New Jersey area. He was also born in Pennsylvania.

I do in South Carolina and North Carolina on both sides. I can't remember them all but a lot. (And some who were loyalists and went to England.) On my mother's side, my great-great-however many grandfather Fleming was a drummer. My cousin has his musket from the war.

My ggg.....grandfather fought at the battle of Kings Mountain. In 1825 he applied and eventually got his pension ......$25 per year.
My great great great grandmother was a Revolutionary War hero from Laurens who married a Patriot (Thomas Springfield) captain and settled in Traveler's Rest. Her name was Dicey (Laodicea) Langston (later Springfield) and she and Capt. Springfield had 22 children ....... most of who lived to adulthood. If you are from the upstate, you are probably a distant cousin!

The Pendleton District that became Anderson, Pickens and Oconee Counties was Indian Territory that sided with the British. In 1790, Revolutionary War soldiers were paid in land grants in this district. If you can trace your family history back to that time you have RWS in your tree. I have found and confirmed 13 direct relatives so far. Gassaway, Tribble, Fisher, Fant, Willis, Johnson, Edwards,Kelley,Cox, Clinkscales, McAdams, Gambrell and Ellison.

The only relative that I know from that time was a loyalist, Capt. Levi Youmans. After the war his family moved to St. Augustine for a few years and then back to the Hampton/Jasper County area. Had relatives on both sides of the Civil War. Do not know if any relatives were on the Patriot side, but considering the Revolutionary War in South Carolina was mostly a civil war, I would not be surprised.

My +++++Greatgrandfather was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War. Barnwell District (Barnwell,Bamberg,Allendale Counties). If there was any activity in this area I’m not aware and would appreciate if someone could enlighten me. He was around 60 at that time. I’m not sure but believe he probably headed up the”home guard “. His grave says Colonel. Died in 1807 at the age of 87

My 3rd great grandfather (maternal), David Charles Garrison, Sr was a Revolutionary soldier from Rockingham Co NC. Years ago a relation from Charlotte sent the documents she used to join the DAR. Also have research from two others identifying him as a Patriot, but not much information as to his specific type of service. About 1788, he moved from NC to G'ville District, buying at different times about 1100 acres and establishing a grist mill on the Saluda River where he named it Garrison Shoals. Henry Pinkney Hammett bought a large part of the property to build a cotton mill and the area became known as Piedmont after development of a mill town.
A Descendant of David's son Peter is former state senator Thomas Edmond Garrison, Jr. My GG grandfather, David Jr and his were brothers who married sisters. Need to research more information about my father's side regarding the Revolution. The family was in what became Transylvania Co in the 1740s so it's likely some relations were Patriots. My late wife, who was a DAR member, had maternal side relations (Smith) in the War from south Jersey, so our kids have Patriots on both sides.

Yes, direct descendent of 15 year old who served from Granville County NC. Got land in the lottery after the war in Hart County Georgia. His grandson later met and married girl from old Pendleton district and moved over the river from Ga to SC in 1830 or so. Cousin traced and joined DAR. I have not yet applied for SAR.

I have direct lineage to Colonel (sometimes General) Williams, who died in dramatic fashion on King’s Mountain. He was supposedly shot while rushing forward to render aid under a white flag. This action likely contributed to the subsequent slaughter (no quarter).
