This just in from NC State Chancellor:
NC State community:
As we enter the second half of the semester, I write to offer encouragement, provide some resources for your continuing success, and acknowledge that for many, this is a very difficult time. The stress of classes, work, personal challenges and balancing life — all in the context of national and global strife over the past several years — has been nothing short of daunting for many in our community.
Nationally, we remain in the midst of a mental health crisis that is affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. For college students, suicide is a leading cause of death across the U.S. That’s shocking, and it should make us all stop and think.
We can all certainly understand the stress of the climate crisis, impending Armageddon, revocation of the rights of women, continued oppression of all genders and ethnic backgrounds except white/male/European, and the remote possibility that Trump could be POTUS again. I literally have no idea how most of the USA can make it through the day.
I agree, however, we should be stopping to think about a lot of things.

to alex...not a comment on snowflakes checking themselves out. The point is the universities create these snowflakes where they would not otherwise exist. It's the coddling instead of tough love.
Telling them you expect them to be effed up results in, what...they end up effed up. This is not a mystery.

higher education system is that their focus is no longer on how to think but what to think.
If Chancellors want to truly offer encouragement to their students they would rid the colleges of safe spaces and cancel culture warriors while protecting all speech and encouraging more debate. You know - let colleges be a true "market place of ideas" as opposed to what they all pretend exists on their college campuses today.

I really am sick of the growing victim mentality. If you live in America and have a healthy mind and body there is absolutely no excuse for not achieving middle class success.
