Recruits at Fla. St. game - question -

Nov 11, 2015, 4:44 AM

I see where def. lineman Dexter Lawrence from Wake Forest N.C took an offical visit. There was also a RB Devon Lawrence from Wake Forest N.C. there. Are they brothers?

Yes, they are brothers.

Dexter is looking like a Clemson guy to me. Devon is a solid RB and very well could end up at Clemson.

Notes on Dexter:
What he's looking for in a school- "Just if the schools are family-oriented, if they do things together," Lawrence said. "All of the coaches into every day and on you, because that's what I'm in right now at my high school.

"All the coaches, if they're religious. Playing as a true freshman, I just want to go somewhere I can play as a freshman."

A true gamer on the big stage- The 6-foot-5, 312-pound Wake Forest High junior defensive lineman manhandled Garner in last week’s 27-13 state semifinal victory. He was credited with 10 tackles, two sacks and two hurries when he pressured the Trojan quarterback into throwing too soon.

Some new film- http://www.dispatch.com/content/embeds/news/2015/07/10/RCS_Charlotte_Dexter_Lawrence_-_DL_MVP.html

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Correct, that article was from last November.

Just thought it was the best short, quick write up describing his play. If anybody is interested in further reading on Dexter, here ya go:

Official Times- Dexter Lawrence is a 6’5/335 lb Senior who finished his Junior season with 31 solo tackles and 10 sacks. Lawrence also added 1 interception and 3 caused fumbles. Dexter has been timed in the 40 yard dash (5.03) and 20 yard shuttle (4.61) with a vertical jump (23.4). He also posted a power throw of (33-0) with a Sparq Rating of 88.98.

“He was unbelievable,” said Garner head coach Thurman Leach. “He is a great, great high school football player. One of the best that I’ve ever seen.” Read more here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article9244421.html#storylink=cpy

An evaluation-
Athletic ability/measurables- Lawrence is already big enough to play at the college level now and has the frame to easily get over 300 pounds. He has great length for an interior lineman. He moves well for a player his size and flashes good quickness.

Skills/technique- Even as a sophomore, Lawrence was able to dominate with his size and strength. Was much more explosive as a junior. He can be disruptive in the backfield when he attacks half of his man and controls his gap well. He’s very strong at the point of attack and holds up very well against the double team.

His pad level was much better as a junior. Got consistently lower than when he was a sophomore and was even more dominant. When his pad level is low, no one can handle him at the high school level.

He has a strong punch off the ball on occasion, but doesn’t always bring his hands. Adding violence to his hands on a consistent basis will him help him a lot because of the advantages that come with his length. When he does punch, he is able to create separation and shed to the football much easier.

It seems like the simplest thing, but so few players do what he does really well right now and that’s rip and run while attacking half of the man as a pass rusher. That puts him ahead of the game compared to a lot of others who simply bull rush their opponents. He can be even better once he develops his hands more as a pass rusher. He does a great job of attacking the quarterbacks arm when he is throwing and is able to get his hands to tip the football a lot because of this.

Scheme fit- Lawrence’s best fit is as a one technique in a 4-3 defense.

Potential- There is no doubt that Lawrence has the potential to be an impact player at defensive tackle at the next level. He’s similar to Notre Dame’s nose tackle Jarron Jones with his height and length, but is far more advanced that Jones was at this age. He has the chance to develop into a disruptive interior player for multiple seasons at the college level.

I think the biggest signing day we had was when Anthony committed on the tube. We had a great class that year. Will this year be as eye opening on signing day or will our commits announce early. I thoroughly enjoy signing day at Clemson, met with friends for the last few years at ESSO and the Wings place to follow it, then go to the BBQ in the evening. Getting to meet early enrollees is something I enjoy.

Will our bigger signees wait till signing day or will they commit early and take the "WOW Clemson is racking up on signing day" out of the mouths of ESPN media? Last year was kind of ho-hum watching ESPN coverage cause we KNEW who we were getting, there were no surprises. I think as a coaching staff, they prefer no surprises unless its a last minute get we didnt count on. As a fan, I like the excitement of hearing "Im going to play my college footbal at Clemson University".
