Realignment question...

Jul 31, 2023, 10:07 PM

What if we dont leave, let the other 6 teams go, Talk the ACC into not adding more teams and keep the performance incentive payouts, could that bridge the gap financially until 2033? We would receive the former teams revenue making the slices of pie bigger and the league champ would get the biggest peice of pie.

Downside seems to be not having legit competion in the league which would damage playoff resume, but a strong ooc, similar to NDs, may help. Also could continue playing former acc schools after their exit.

You would have to think contracts get renegotiated if teams start leaving the conference.***

True...but hear me out...if GOR holds we would receive the revenue from the 6 that left. Now that will never happen, it would be a buyout similar to what FSU is proposing. So...if 300million is the buyout that would mean 1.8 billion. Divided by 8 remaining teams is abouut 22.5 million. Negotiate a new tv deal for 40million per team with Fox and now with playoff incentives from the conference we are closer to the SEC.

Just a little devils advocate and trying to see the conservative side of the deal.

If 6 teams left the ACC, the remaining teams would not be able

to negotiate a $40M/year contract for each team remaining, even if Clemson was one of them. There would be slim pickings of schools left who you’d have to assume have very little media draw.

Plus, the B1G is way more and will also be closer to $100M/year when they renegotiate in 2030. Who wants to sign a $40M deal right now?

If the GOR holds, then none of the other teams are leaving.
