Wow, big portal numbers at Colorado - Build a Championship?

I guess they gotta trust that Deion knows what he's doing.

71 players entered the transfer portal since last August, 47 since since the spring transfer window opened on April 15, just last month. That's crazy.

I dunno. I think I'd rather have players that are committed to the program and the university and have good seasons, than go to the CFP with different players every year - guys who are just looking to win a championship and couldn't care less where it is or anything about the program's culture. If I want "Buy a Championship" teams, I'll watch pro sports.

That's part of the fun of college sports, to me - following the same guys from freshmen senior (or juniors) and their progress, knowing that the team has an identity and some cohesiveness.

Maybe I'm just old (ok, yes, I am old), but I'd rather have Clemson University championships, than champions who just wear the Clemson uniform. Big difference to me. But... that's just me.

They also signed a huge class and have brought in tons of transfers that were undoubtedly better the players that were one of the worst P5 teams of all time.

Not a single one of them "had a good season"

This is true. I would be shocked if they didn't have a significantly better season and produce at least a couple of draft picks.

For the record, I am against the transfer portal entirely - not even if they sit out a year.

You have to give him credit though. He told them to leave if they weren't up for the competition. At the very least, when the season is over nobody will be able to say that he didn't have his own team. The transfer portal allowed him to avoid 3-4 years of struggle with another coach's players like most oncoming coaches have had to do in the past. This has definitely been interesting to watch.

You made a good point. Why struggle if you don’t have to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s necessary for a swift rebuild of the program. Welcome to 2023.

There is absolutely no doubt Neon is gonna build that program up, fast.

Oh there is plenty of doubt.

Get over it. Schools do not buy players and if they did, there is not enough gold in the Colorado mountains to buy that many players. Give Deion a chance for a few years and see how this works.

I read somewhere that Colorado admissions would not accept transfers or coursework from other schools before he got there. Things sure changed if that's true.

I am sure it was in his contractual agreement.

Unless the rules change, Deion is playing the game the way it will have to be played.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

More of an indictment of the state of the sport than Deion.

It's more wide open than the NFL. There are no free agency restrictions and no salary cap in "college" football.

This was a great article comparing Prime at Colorado to Dabo at Clemson.
