see anything very appealing to me over the last year.

I saw Oppenheimer in the theaters (it was OK), Guardians of The Galaxy 3 (Pretty good) and Ant-Man Wasp Quantumnausea (Pure palp). But in all honesty, there just hasn't been much which appealed to me over the last couple of years.
Granted, a 53 year old white male is a pariah to most filmmakers and definitely not the target audience of many movies, but in general it just doesn't seem there is a lot of buzz about movies anymore.

Looking back at previous years when I went to the movies regularly, 1997 stands out. I saw 19 movies in theaters that year:
Title(my score)

As Good as It Gets(10)
Titanic(9)
Good Will Hunting(10)
Men in Black(9)
Absolute Power(8)
Dante's Peak(7)
Paradise Road(8)
Austin Powers(7)
Batman and Robin(3)
Face/Off(5)
Contact(7)
Conspiracy Theory(2)
Air Force One(6)
LA Confidential (6)
The Apostle(7)
Seven Years in Tibet(4)
Anastasia(7)
The Postman(4)
Wag The Dog (3)

I could not imagine going to the movies every third weekend now..there just isn't much worth seeing.

From 1993 - 2001 I probably averaged 14 movies in theaters each year. Slowly after that, there just seemed to be less and less which seemed worth watching.

BTW..1939 was the best year for movies. Are movies getting worse or am I just getting to be a jaded curmudgeon?

Only going to the theater for marvel movies is your problem and frankly cinemas as a whole.

There is one thing and one thing alone that has destroyed creative, story driven solid Hollywood films over the past few years and that is wokeness...it stifles the writers and directors creative vision in order to maintain "the message" for "modern audiences." It is no longer about entertaining the audience, it's about propagandizing them

Even though few and far between, you still see films that aren't all woke and preachy become box office successes

LOL, in 1939, I was still 15 years away from being compiled. But, I agree that

was a great year for the movies. Gone With The Wind, which won Best Picture, and The Wizard of Oz, just to name a couple. "I'll GET you, my Pretty!" "Rayett, Rayett! If you leave me, where will I go, what will I DO? Frankly, my dear, I (STILL) don't give a dayum!"

Testament to Clark Gable's staying power, I also remember him for a submarine flick, "Run Silent, Run Deep", which came out 19 years AFTER Gone with the Wind, in 1958. The man with all those teeth, Burt Lancaster, was also in that one.
