That is just stupid money. I don't care about any entertainer nearly that much. But good for Christian.
Go Tigers!!!

Well, I'm happy for Christian, but this has gotten insane. Flame away, if you wish, but I can see zero justification for paying a guy, and even a good guy like Christian, obscene sums to play a game. Face it, if they cancelled Pro football tomorrow, would it impact your life that much? I enjoy watching, but how much would you pay out of your pocket to keep it rolling? I'd bet most would complain, but I doubt many would pony up a bunch more money to keep it. I know I certainly wouldn't.

The NFL obviously is wildly popular. I’d rather the players get this money than the owners just keeping it! Great for CW - he’s earned it.

Per the CBA that the players AND owners agree to,

Nfl players get about 49% of the total revenue.

Why on earth would you take issue with that?

Exactly, it comes from revenue brought in by people caring and watching. I want our Clemson guys to get as much of that share as they can!

It’s the free market at work. That amount of money is exactly what he’s worth because that’s what someone is willing to pay him. What troubles me is what that says about what we value as a society. We pay entertainers that much money and underpay our teachers, police, firefighters, EMS technicians, and the list goes on and on. What’s the answer? I don’t know but I know what isn’t the answer- any kind of governmental involvement.

If you're going to go out there and be a star and bag those kinds of resources - CW42 is a dude I'd like to see wield them.

Great day to be a Clemson Tiger.

the best explanation I've ever managed for the amount of money

players make in football and baseball is that teams are like those old trading vessels that used to do the world transits, picking up goods in China, with every sailor allowed to bring home a chest of whatever they thought would be valuable. Or, like a whaling vessel where everybody had a share of the profits, from maybe 1/2 the total value for a captain all the way to maybe 1/2 of one share for a carpenter's mate. Some of those guys got very, very wealthy if their boat happened to get very lucky hunting sperm whales for their oil. And the same is true with sports teams. It isn't about working for a wage. You're considered an invaluable part of the franchise and you get compensated accordingly. Team gonna make 4 billion dollars in revenue over 4 years? Congratulations. You've considered to be worth 110 billion of that, unless you get cut because you stop really producing after year 2.
