Who all eats Hoppin Johns and Collards for New Years?

My batch is just ready to be served up. Running a little late today, I used smoke turkey wings and leg today. They took a little longer to break down like a hock or shank.

This is one meal my father always looks forward too and brags after his second helping because he is not a big eater.

I'm gonna eat more than my share because I can use some extra money and good luck! Hope they work, I didn't eat them last year first time in several yrs.

Time to eat!

Exactly what we had. The blackeyed peas just sounded like the Bama elephant going off. 💨

My parents moved back to Iowa 7-8yrs ago for my G-pa who has since passed, but they have been doing their best to educate them Mid-westerners.

It's not my favorite meal, but tradition, I guess.

Same here, collards, blackeye peas and rice, fried pork chops (only time for the year) jalapeño cornbread, cucumber and onion in vinegar. Good stuff.
