I don't think I'd ever heard it until Karine Jean-Pierre used it not that long ago. It seems like the next day, every political pundit and talking head was saying it, and now I hear them (and only them) using it regularly.

As a side note, every single one of my Indian colleagues says”On the top of my head” when asked open ended questions they don’t know.

Unlike a lot of business terms such as selling velocity, forklift upgrade, bubble up, double click (en vogue with my current team), peel back the onion, surface, etc

It was really me thinking (believe it or not) out loud. For 63 years, I never once heard that phrase; then all of a sudden, I hear it frequently from political pundits and talking heads. That was the point.
