What makes analysts so high on Clemson?

There were Clemson playoff predictions posted on TNET earlier, and Clemson was predicted with a #3 seed in more than one analysts playoff.
This is not the first playoff prediction with us in it for next year either.
I can Clemson getting in the 12-team playoff, but being a 3-seed?
I also understand that if Clemson wins the ACC, they get a top-6 seed.
Clemson must be predicted to win the ACC next year, but how can anyone be certain of that? I would definitely say that we are the most talented team in the ACC, and top-10 talent wise nationally. But we haven’t seen good development in the last couple years.
What’s different this year?

I think ‘they’ are giving us the ‘benefit of doubt’, in that our offense will improve due to our offensive starters having one more year of maturity; plus our defense is our strength. They WERE the strength of the team, and really didn’t lose as much.
But it is always just a crap shoot, for the most part.

It’s a little by virtue of default.
Bama will a non-factor
Michigan will be a non-factor
Expanded Big 10 likely means Penn State and PAC 12 refugees get smacked around
Expanded SEC likely means Texas and OU get smacked around.
The ACC will be weaker as FSU starts over, Duke starls over, Drake Maye is gone, and who knows which Louisville team shows up.
Cade has more experience, the OL should be better. Why not the 3 or 4 seed?

The problem is that you’re very confident in assuming things will go in favor of the odds.
College football is a different sport now. With the amount of fluidity throughout rosters all around the country, any team can gain momentum at any time.
You flip on any college football game, it is likely to be even no matter what the matchup is.
I hate to say it, but other ACC teams have caught up. As well as Clemson regressing on its own.
Miami is an example. I really think they could be pretty good with Cameron Ward from Washington State. And with their recruiting.
You also can’t be sure that DJ won’t win games at FSU. He was shaky at Clemson, but in 2022, he we were 10-1 and ready to play for the college football playoff.
NC State really had one of their best years last year, and maybe could make some noise.
And, hopefully the O line will be better, but if it’s not, we’re out of luck.
All of this said, Clemson has a top-5 roster, talent wise.

You missed the point that is an off season guess to generate interest in media companies. They are not solving an equation. There is no accountability in getting the answer wrong because if we miss the mark they will simply say we underachieved.
In essence you are wanting to argue the finer points of an unaccountable SWAG....

Overall it’s not that much different than last year. It’s FSU or Clemson for the ACC.
In the latest “ESPN content creators high on Clemson” TNet News re-post made today, the too early 12 team playoff picks were make by six individuals. Two had us at #3 seed and one had us at #4. Two of the three having us in the playoff also had FSU as an at large.
With the other three pickers, two had FSU in the top four while Clemson does not make the playoff as an at large for any.
The top four conference winners get the top four seeds as well as a bye. If the 12 best qualifying teams were ranked for best to worst, it is conceivable we could be #11 or #12. We are only three or four because of the conference title and according to these content providers we make the CFP only because we are a conference champ.
According to these six content providers, Clemson is on three ballots - all as conference champion. FSU appears on four ballots - twice as conference champion and twice as an at large.
So to me it’s kind of a push. However, I would say overall the panel thinks more highly of FSU. I say this because FSU is able to make the playoffs as an at large whereas we have to win the conference to make it.

So you’re implying that the overall opinion of this panel is the deciding factor between Clemson’s legitimacy and FSU’s legitimacy?
First, I don’t think FSU is thought higher of than Clemson even currently. Because of our coach and roster. The greatness is there.
But main point, even if anybody thinks higher of FSU, they don’t have reason to put Clemson on a lower scale.
Does FSU play Georgia next year? Their biggest non conference game is at ND. Which is pretty tough, but come on, Georgia’s tougher in Atlanta.
What you said implies that if Clemson went 11-1 and was not an ACC champion, they couldn’t get an at large. As opposed to FSU being 11-1 without a conference championship and being able to get an at large.
I also want to point out another flaw in this reasoning. If Clemson did not win the ACC Championship at 11-1, that means that either Clemson lost to an ACC team during season or that they lost in the ACC Championship.

This means that Clemson would’ve beaten Georgia in both of those scenarios. Losing to an ACC team like FSU or Pitt in season, or losing in the ACC Championship.
If Clemson beats Georgia and is 11-1 as a non conference champion, Clemson is certainly in the 12-team playoff. Given Georgia does well after Clemson loss.
If you want to talk 10-2 record with no ACC Championship, then that doesn’t apply because neither Clemson nor FSU would get in with that resume. UNLESS Clemson beat Georgia and Georgia went on to be the SEC Champion as resume booster.
This was a post regarding this certain panel’s opinion of Clemson. But just because these random people may think FSU has some kind of higher chance at an at large doesnt affect what the committee will do.

My commentary / opinion was specifically about this six person panel blurb that TNet bosses felt obliged to post as content.
I don’t call them experts or even analysts - they are content providers. I don’t think they influence much. I only read the blurb because I found your original post interesting. Looking at this small sample size of six , I stand by the thought that collectively it’s a push at best with FSU and at worst a slight nod to FSU.
In the end my point is that I’m NOT thinking these folks are necessarily high on Clemson is all. It’s like last year - FSU or Clemson are poised to win the ACC and by default make the CFP. I would agree.
For my own opinion on Clemson vs the field - I can honestly say that I have no idea about FSUs roster, etc or any other ACC opponent. I’ll start thinking about that after spring practices. IMHO we overall have a talented roster. Defense will be the anchor - we know what we are getting. Offensively the running game appears to be solid but to me the offense - remains a work in progress. We had had a fun 4Q with Kentucky but it is one quarter AND I think whatever defensive scheme UK went into contributed greatly to our success.
TL;DR too much work salad summary: I don’t think those six nice ESPN people think Clemson is anything more than a solid team.

One thing I didn’t mention as well is the 11 and 12 seeds are going to be given to the 2 lowest ranked conference champions. The Cinderellas like Tulane.
And yeah I agree about the offense, Kentucky must have screwed up their scheme.
While I’ve been discussing the playoff for Clemson, I just think it’ll take a while to get the offense back.
We’ve seen this thing many times. I don’t think Cade automatically becomes Deshaun Watson. I think we still have struggles next year. And we won’t have a QB to back him up.
As well as the fact that we don’t have any 5-star QB commits.

Conf champs do not get 11 and 12.
Top 4 champs get top 4 seeds. Next champ gets whatever seed they are ranked at. If they happen to be ranked outside the top 12, they get 12th.
There won’t be a 6th auto-bid due to PAC 12 dismemberment.

The top 4 conference champs get the top 4 seeds. We don't have to be #3 in the rankings...we just have to win the ACC and be ahead of the Big12 champ.

if you've watched any game on tv this year they say the same scripted line about how we were hosed last year in not getting in.. so its on the national narrative for our team this year. They really want to right their wrong from last year but we keep snatching defeat from the mouth of victory. We don't have that cardiac cat quality this year. We've got the players to be that team but we dont' know how to draw up a 2 minute game plan.
Girard is the guy to seal up all these games that we've lost late this year but he's just not effective in that last minute..should be the only one we give the ball to at the end of games for free throws but he's just left on his island like he's been all year.. brownell is i guess hoping he turns into luka doncic overnight. The guy needs to have picks set and we are supposed to be helping him get free from defenders but we don't. We let the most athletic guy get open and then go 1 for 2 at the line every time.. just like clockwork.
The pieces are there..just neglected.

Start with the 2023 Clemson team being way way better than the record.
In the old years the record is 9-2-2 and had the kicker not just come in from the beach the FSU game would have been won and a 10-2-1 record would have been.
So that’s the start. Onto that add the expectation that the team will be better … so … playoffs
