What is your most unique item of Clemson memorabilia?

7

Nov 9, 2023, 2:40 PM

I come across various old Clemson items in antique stores and it got me wondering what responses we'll see.

I have an old purple and orange penent that says Clemson A&M College. At least I think that's what it says, I don't have it infront of me right now. I talked about it on here once before and several collector types told me it was from the 1950s.

Went into the CUAD facilities shop one days years ago and they were trying to break Howards Rock free from the old gray concrete base it used to sit on so that they could mount it on the black pedestal it sits on today. These little chips were coming off of the rock and I reached down and grabbed a couple and asked if I could have them. Sure they said.
Of course, no way to prove they came from there, but they did.

It looks like it belonged to a lineman, and the name "Mitchell" and the number "153" are written in black magic marker inside the left earhole. I also acquired a chinstrap that I am 99 percent sure I got from Jimmy Ness, a defensive back, after a game in 1974.

The athletic department had a yard sale type event that I went to when I lived close to Clemson. I bought five pair of orange britches that were worn in the 1981 natty in the orange bowl for 20 bucks per pair. The guy selling them said they were worn in the 81 natty. I hope he was telling the truth. When I got home I noticed players names written on the inner back of the waist band and the pants were identical to those worn by Perry Tuttle on the cover of the SI magazine when Clemson won the natty in 1981.
