Has anyone caught some of all the crap he is spewing on Instagram calling Dabo a racist? He talked about an assistant coach using “the” n word and was still allowed to stay. He went onto say that if we (the fans) only knew the stuff he had heard in team meetings.
Question. Is this not in the arena of character defamation?

The coach in question used the word in context other players heard and dismissed as not what is was made out to be.
Poor kid. Scholarship athlete with an elite program. Dabo hurt his feewings.

thats roughly what I heard, if this is the situation I heard about a few years ago, a player used the word, then a coach used the word in the course of telling that player to not use the word, that one player got upset, but other players said it was not an issue.

coach why he didn't block a kid and the coach parroted it back at him and told him to go block the kid. Basically was saying quit making excuses and go block.

Black Clemson Tiger chiming in here: don’t read too much into it. Not sure what Van Smith’s gripe is, but he’s got Coach Swinney’s number…why go to social media? Unless he’s got definitive proof (video, text messages, etc), he can say what he wants. I think it’s all hearsay until otherwise proven. Definitely in the arena of character defamation.

Eh, I think that’s a reductionist point of view. There’s complexity to everything. For example, I’m a 4th grade teacher & one of my students (yes, a 10y old) called another racist because she wouldn’t be his partner (he had a crush) & chose to work with another boy the same ethnicity as her. His accusation was baseless (like Van Smith’s probably is) because she told the boy “I’m not racist, I just don’t wanna work with you because you’re lazy.” I chose to share this example because I’m trying to combat to some of the issues we’re seeing in society (i.e baseless accusations of racism) by teaching my students to check their own character before making assumptions about others AND to see the humanity in another person.

Great post. Character matters.
Equipping children to think before they act/speak is commendable. Critical thinking skills seem to be in short supply these days. That's exactly the kind of guidance kids need. Thanks for sharing.

Danny Pearman used the n-word (didn't call anyone that) during a practice, and a non-playing racist loser pretended to be offended.
The n-word is never used by young white and black people, ever.

Dabo is above pursuing character defamation from a former player.
On IG Van posted a black sports news site (tabloid?) screenshot where some trainer/coach out of Georgia was videotaped saying racist things. The coach has no ties to Clemson and was one of dozens and dozens who got a photo opportunity with Dabo at a camp. Others replied pictures can be found with the same guy with Saban, Smart, etc.
Van also brought up "the N word incident". We all know Pearman said it in response to a player's use of the word and correcting him. Internal punishment/reprimand was performed, end of story.
Van also took jabs at the spring game. Seems like sour grapes or has a hatchet to bury with the program.
