First, off, really mean and plain ill-spirited. I can't believe that we have people in the fan base who would say that to CDS on a call-in show.
However, I think there is a clear distinction between debating what has gone wrong this season on message board and calling into a talk show blasting a coach like Dabo, who doesn't deserve that.
Next, I don't see anything wrong with Dabo's response like some of you do. He is simply defending the program.
Dabo admitted he can be wrong like anyone. I wonder if he even think he's made some bad decisions with some "internal" hires?
99.9% of us, have no clue what's going on with that staff in their internal meetings, who might be sharp, hard-working, loofing, plain and simply good or bad at their job.
All the fans see are results. The rest is speculation, at best. It doesn't mean, hard questions to debate here should be off-limits. That would make a very boring sports board. However, getting in the face of a coach who's won two natties, is crazy and disrespectful.

Couldn’t have said it better. Lots of people Monday night and yesterday morning expecting Dabo to apologize. Don’t see that happening. The man is right to defend himself and his program. He will make the changes he thinks are needed when it is appropriate. And he knows his job better than any of us on this board.

He does have the right to defend himself. I definitely agree. However, sometimes apologies are not for what you did wrong but for the way in which you delivered the context. I believe both should talk in private and let it be. The young man did apologize and I am sure he regrets his words.
Just my opinion. That would be the Christian thing to do.

..that's just who he is, it's worked, and you're not going to change the man. He reminds me of a boss I once had. He would go to war defending me to the top brass if I made a mistake, but rip me privately too.
I respect that.

Great post. I'm fine with people "attacking" what they see on the field. Such as, wrong call on 3rd and 10, why didn't you go for it on 4th and 1, etc.
That person had NO right to attack how much Dabo makes or question his character or faith.

Again, Tyler did not question Dabos faith.

In fact, he clearly stated on two different occasions that he appreciates that Dabo is a man of faith. He also stated that he has previously enjoyed hearing press conferences for the life advice Dabo’s provided.
Asking Dabo if he is familiar with a specific Bible verse, and what it means, is not questioning Dabo’s faith.
Should Tyler have gone about his comments in a more respectful way? Absolutely. No doubt about it. But if we are to a point where Dabo cannot be questioned, even by a time longtime fan, then we truly have reached cult like status with Dabo at Clemson.

Asking Dabo if he is familiar with a specific Bible verse, and what it means, is challenging Dabo’s faith and basically asking whether he walks the walk or just talks the talk. He definitely threw down a challenge with that comment. You can spin it however you want, just like saying anyone who supports Dabo is a cultist. Spin on, troll.

Dude, he wasn't questioning Dabo's faith.

He was challenging what he felt was Dabo's pride and arrogance, which is a departure from the humble Dabo he has seen in the past.
Tyler did not question whether Dabo is a Christian. In fact, he said twice that he appreciates Dabo's religious beliefs.
And to be honest, Tyler seems to be right, because Dabo came across very prideful and arrogant in his emotional rant.
You are the one spinning this into Dabo's faith being questioned, but I am not surprised because it helps create the image that our $11.5 million a year coach is some sort of martyr.
Besides, even if Tyler was questioning Dabo's faith (he wasn't!), does that give Dabo the right to question Tyler's age, maturity, fandom, or intellect? Because Dabo did all of those things without question.

I think Dabo and Tyler were both right and wrong in ways. As far as just Tyler, he just stated what so many people are saying on all of these boards all of the time. Was it bold to say that to Dabo? Sure. Should he have said what so many are thinking? Tough to say. I would say no at this point. Maybe in another year if things were the same. He should have never mentioned pay though. Pay is irrelevant. As far as Dabo, he was out of line as well. He became a litle unhinged and doubled down the next morning calling the guy an idiot. In the end though, it would have been better for all parties if the entire situation never happened. I fully support Dabo and I think we are two years away from being the real deal again. People just need to face reality.

I’m fact, it’s very germane to the whole discussion.
It wouldn’t be a big deal if we were 4-4 and Dabo was paid like a 4-4 coach. It also wouldn’t be a big deal if we were an amazing team up until this year.
But we are on year 3 of a 3 year decline in our program. We have had some losses to teams we shouldn’t be losing to. Dabo has made some very questionable hires. These aren’t commensurate with the second highest paid coach in college football.

And now the jealousy angle. Pay doesn’t guarantee success. If it did, I’d be all for giving all the Clemson coaches in every sport huge raises so we could win championships in every sport. The man has earned his salary. Future performance will dictate future pay changes.

No one said that pay guarantees success.

But there is a certain level of expertise and performance that is expected for a given salary. It's why owners and CEO's who have been in an industry 20-30 years make more than a new college graduate.
Dabo's salary is not solely based on his past accomplishments, but also an expectation for future success.
For the last three years, Dabo has failed to perform at a level consistent with his salary.
This isn't complicated.

Dabo kind of asked for it when he went after fans and made the “lose some more games” comment - and then ya know, lost two more games
Now he gets to play the high ground after making crappy comments that he had no business making in the first place
His mouth caused the mess and he shouldn’t get a free pass on that imo

Plyler even says the program lacks accountability
maybe its a top / down problem
I would have no issue telling this to Dabo because I’m not a boot licker
the team appears soft, undisciplined and there is accountability lacking

Agree with everything you just said here. Hence my taking notes on that comment yesterday and bringing it up. I wish Dabo would walk back some of his comments and I wish you'd delete yours from yesterday because they were inappropriate and had nothing to do with the situation this week. I think you're better than what you said yesterday. That said I'll drop it and move on. Go Tigers

The same small percentage every fan base has. Before the internet, these "toxic" (my word) fans had a harder time finding others that would listen to their constant complaining. Now, toxic fans can more readily find other toxic fans, giving them the impression that the group is larger than it actually is. This illusion has given them the courage to be more vocal, burdening the majority of rational fans with their nonsense on the only platform toxic fans have, message boards. It's good that most have family and/or significant others who can keep them in check in their real lives because we've seen what can happen when toxic fans are left to their own devices and a telephone.

All's I know is since that original comment there's been a lot less coach and player criticism and call-outs on here and much more directed at Dabo, which was likely his intention. Stinks that it didn't carry over onto the playing field enough on Offense these past two games - D has largely been lights out still. Maybe this latest round will help provide the spark some of the players seem to need to step it up when we have the ball. It's clear those in the program truly love and respect the man. He's always had their backs and taken shots for the team and its individuals regularly. Hopeful they can pay that back on the field starting this Saturday.
Go Tigers! Go Team Dabo!

my Tigers.
I am as disappointed as anyone. I truly believe that Clemson's roster could have been managed better and I also believe that I could be completely wrong.
Truth is that I don't know anything about running a program but it doesn't stop be from speculating or having an opinion.

Already been in the shop twice. Once for a faulty fuel gauge and another time to replace the whole steering column unit. Not good!
But hey, I bought a vehicle from a French company who manufactures them in Latin American. I should have known better.

The mental gymnastics you made to protect someone from who makes $30k a day….Dabo was soft.
It’s okay to still like Dabo while simultaneously calling it for what it is.
I don’t understand this backwards mentality of having to try and find any way possible to defend a sports coach.
If Dabo went out of his way to initiate something like this, you wouldn’t dare chastise him.
The inability for you to see anyone you like do something wrong is baffling.

Sounds like the codependency of an empath and narcissist.

Good post PacBeachTiger. What would any of us expect if we poke the bear? Coach knows more about his program than any of us out here in TNET Land. Go Tigers, Beat ND!!

Too many people expect perfection out of the man.
Otherwise Dabo was spot on.

Thank the Lord today my monthly income does not depend on trying to get 18-23 year old young men to work together for a common goal. It was very hard in the military to accomplish this task with all the tools available. Even then, some wound up not getting in line and were dismissed from the program. Now, add folks having access to social media outlets, getting paid bunches of money to play the game of football plus trying to fit into this crazy world we are living in and it a major surprise that most player show up for the games on Saturday. I'm glad Dabo has taken this on and has done a masterful job of getting all the folks to work and play together over the years and had lots of success. Dang, I am glad to be a Tiger fan and support his program. Go Tigers and see you in the valley on Saturday.

my first exposure to the whole thing. I was pretty impressed. The show hosts all loved it and were solidly Team Dabo.
Sometimes folks just need to be put in their place and set straight. Whether Tyler takes the lesson he received to heart or not is on him.
Go Tigers.
