TV coverage - the Humphries trick play in 3rd Q

Jan 1, 2013, 8:21 PM

I notice watching the replay that TV coverage didn't show the trick play that was aborted when Humphries false started. He was at the sidelines, facing Dabo and was totally uncovered, when he started downfield too quickly. This would have been a huge play. But the camera didn't show it and the announcers didn't even mention it, only that it was "inexcusable" for a WR to false start. Humphries wasn't watching the ball - his back was turned. Somebody on the sideline yelled "Go" too soon evidently.

Shame - that would have probably been a TD.

We saw that play unravel from our seats and our entire section was going nuts waiting on the snap to happen. Indeed someone did motion for him to go, but unfortunately it was too soon. Definitely would have been a TD because the closest defender was on the left hash marks, with his back turned to where Humphries was.

Like the poster said it is not inexcusable when it is a trick play and the WR is depending on a signal from the sideline to know when the snap is coming

The LSU fans around me were talking smack about our offense being so good but couldn't even get the snap count right. The funny thing was they abandoned ship as soon as the pass was blocked they knew they were going to lose and didn't want to hear our crap. I guess they saw what a real Defense looked like.

Yes...same play Jacoby torched SCAR for a TD on in 2008...***
