Just who do they think will want to replace him that thinks they can do any better than he’s done? That group is delusional!

The problem with Syracuse

Syracuse suffers from 2 problems when it comes to football: #1 They're a 'basketball' school. #2 They're in the Northeast.
There are currently 11 NFL players that went to Syracuse. Clemson has 4x that many. That's the difference between a football school in the South versus a basketball school in the Northeast.
Dino did an outstanding job given the hand that he was dealt by the University. But his years of success can't be sustained with poor facilities, a weak recruiting base and unrealistic leadership. He was a massive upgrade over Shafer and Syracuse won't find anyone better.
They did Dino Babers a favor.

Why do we want or need Clemson basketball to be so successful when we are ABSOLUTELY a football program in a football rich South?? If a football school is doing big time things in football.....then the basketball team of a football school like we have is I guess.... overachieving??
Duke...a basketball school .... overachieving in football.
North Carolina...a basketball school.... basically at a respectable level at football
NC State ...a basketball school.... pretty much at their peak level in football.
Miami....a football school.... knows how to play basketball...so they're overachieving.
Florida State...a football school...they have over achieved in basketball I would say.
Wake Forest....a basketball school...had overachieving years recently in football
Syracuse....I think has just plateaued....but they are a basketball school first. They just got tired of Dino.

That's a topic that comes up from time to time with some of my buddies. It's interesting when a school like Louisville ends up with a contender in Football, Baseball and Basketball. There's a handful of schools that seem to be able to balance all 3 and achieve success. But I think it's rare.
I'd love to see Clemson compete for championships in basketball. But, I don't think it's realistic. Look at Marquette, Creighton, Gonzaga and Villanova. They're successful because they focus on Basketball. And elite players don't want to go to college and be a second class citizen to Johnny Football. Anyway, that's my take on it.

as the receivers coach/assistant offensive coordinator. Babers is a great offensive mind. Riley seems to be doing well and having a proven receivers coach would be huge.

Why not let him coach the last game and then fire him? Is the 6-day head start going to make that much difference to their search?

Feel the same way about Wittle Jimbo. Why fire them a week or two before the end of the season? Just creates a media storm, the interim might not be as good as the fired coach, and the players might start bailing out.

The ‘fire the coach with one / two games remaining’ philosophy is predicated in getting a jump in other programs that are thinking of firing their HC, but will wait until after the regular season to do so.
With the HC out of the way, the early to fire HC schools like aTm, MS State, Syracuse, etc can then freely reach out to coaches at other programs and test the waters.

He's a receivers coach. Just sayin... I've always thought highly of Dino, and I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him on Clemson's staff. But who am I to say.

Babers is a good coach & good guy. Unrealistic to think Cuse will do better.

Syracuse is a tough place to win. The AD puts nothing in to football. They just leach the ACC's football revenue generated by Clemson, FSU, et al.
Cuse's recruiting region is not very fertile and it has plenty of regional competition from more attractive schools like Penn State, and arguably BC, Rutgers, Pitt & UMD, as well as non-regional football schools raiding their region (like Clemson has done with guys like Christian Wilkins). I'm not sure that Saban could do much better at Cuse.
I think Babers is a darned good coach and that Cuse was fortunate to have him. I don't think they'll hire anybody who will do better. But I guess at some point, you have to make a change if your boosters are unhappy with the unchanging trajectory.

With what the ACC is talking about doing with the revenue sharing with the schools that actually have a decent FB program, and that could be the cause of Babers firing without letting him finish out the season, it's maybe bc they can no longer afford to pay him since they mooch off of the schools that actually try to have a winning FB program!!!
