Our administration did what they felt was in the best interest of Clemson First, and Conference Second. Good on them for sticking to their values and keeping their integrity.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was about as little as we could possibly say

7

Sep 1, 2023, 12:56 PM

about it. Our "No" vote spoke much louder and tells the real story.

********
Clemson's leadership has been aligned and consistent throughout this process, and continues to position our University for long-term success.
********

Translation - We will continue to diligently pursue every possible means of leaving the ACC as soon as possible. This expansion changes nothing in our process.

At what end?! Adding no teams would have ensured a long and PAINFUL implosion of the ACC. I kept posting this was the ONLY route to ensure relevancy. IF we opted out, we would have lost all TV money through 2036 and $120 million on top. What did “not voting” add to our position?! Nothing. Adapt or die. Period.

LOL adding three nothing football schools

1

Sep 1, 2023, 10:12 PM

Does absolutely nothing to impact the future relevance of ACC football.

Clemson's leadership missing the big pictures. Those teams can help the ACC in other sports and some of those markets and ACC trying to stay relevant. Having 3 or 4 super conferences will ruin NCAA football cause even playing no out of conference teams could still take couple years to play all the teams. Where could end up with couple teams per conferences undefeated. Where even if start taking 16 teams in playoffs. Be like basketball where 68 teams get in usually 4 to 8 teams records to get in but bumped by 500 team in big conference.

I'm not sure how the financial burden and time away from class flying to the west coast will help the other sports and their student athletes. For non-revenue sports, this decision seems unreasonably costly. I can't even begin to fathom the costs for non-revenue sports for Cal and Stanford. Poor SMU has no one nearby, this decision will cost them more than anyone.

Re: Very professional and clear statement.

Sep 1, 2023, 4:28 PM

SMU has a crazy amount of Texas oil money.
Plus they are betting on the ACC (as it currently stands) not being around too long, and using their new “Power 5” status to get a seat at the grown up table for the next round of realignment.

Clemson athletics will need to play the ‘fear of the coming pandemic / must protect the safety and well being of our non-FB student athletes’ rationale to cancel our West Coast road trips for the non-revenue sports.

I’d throw that card each time a new hand got dealt (except for FB).

And I thought Clemson’s statement was detached.

FSU’s wasn’t detached, their statement was unambiguous in sentiment.

Respectful of the 3 new members, but unapologetic by virtue of broadcasting their “no” vote for the public record.

As always, ND played the crowd of ACC dwarfs like a fiddle. We’re stuck paying the band.

Ridgeland: Someone has to play the "bad cop."

Agreed....FSU has been a bit loud...but its been needed and has helped pave the road. Not exactly the way I would do it (I like CLEM's style)...but at least FSU hasn't BS, has spoken truth/reality abt situation and hasn't been a buffoon like UNCs AD Bubba Cunnigham....although I give them credit for having some gravitas unlike Nancy over there in Raleigh...

I guess if Clemson didn't understand before now, that it's clear now that being one of the 7 original member schools that made the ACC, it means nothing anymore. I think they also know that they made an error for not leaving this sissy conference long before now, but I would bet that our Clemson is just biding it time waiting for a crack in the door, and we're gone gone GONE for greener grasses!!!

Clemson voting no along with FSU and UNC not very bright. Stanford and SMU good addition via helping in other non football sports. Plus ACC alumni that don't leave close to the school can watch during aways. Dabo when adding SMU to football schedule make 1st game at SMU but Cotton Bowl. Clemson SMU would probably set college football record attendance. Don't know much about other CA school. First couple years when west coast plays east coast neural site Dallas Cotton Bowl middle of the way.

Clemson vs SMU at SMUs Ford stadium wouldn't even sell out.

Wake is still the lowest stadium capacity in ACC at 31,500
SMU is 32,000

I suspect that Stanford, Cal, and SMU are dreaming about their trips to Death Valley and putting a beatdown on the Tigers.

The message is clear…”Dream On the PCH. You’ll never have the chance to play in Death Valley.”
