Seems like there is a definite split in the fan base now.
Group 1. Clings to the fact that this coach brought us to 4 national championship game and won 2. Until this year he has the most consecutive 10+ win seasons in program history. The most consecutive ACC championships in program history. 8 ACC championships in total. He is the reason Clemson got back to being an elite program. This group thinks that deserves a huge amount of respect (which means how you talk about Dabo and the program he manages) no matter what the current record is. They have a point. A coach that has this type of accomplishments should be talked about with respect. He should also be talked to with respect. There are questions you don't ask a man like this just out of respect for what he has accomplished. They are unwilling to let a storied coach like Dabo go
Group 2. Just focuses on the here and now. Clemson is not doing well right now and this is all that matters. It no longer matters what Clemson accomplished with the exact same coach 5 years ago. Clemson is an elite program now and should always perform as such. Interestingly enough this chip on their shoulder literally was created by Dabo Swinney's success as a head coach. So to this group, no coach deserves deference for being great in the past. They would have called for the firing of Joe Paterno 10 years before he was gone. If they were Florida State fans they would have let Bobby Bowden go after the 2009 9-3 season in spite of him being the icon of FSU football. They probably have a point too. Florida State bounced back really quickly to 1 or 2 loss seasons when Jimbo Fisher took over.
Now I am rambling, but....
Jimbo Fisher is probably a great case to look at. He won a national Championship and suddenly the program fell off a cliff a few years later...why was that? According to several articles, I read about that time, after the 2013 championship Fisher fell back on his laurels and totally failed to instill drive into his players. His players lacked discipline and had a sense of entitlement. they were not motivated on the field. His entire staff became known as lazy coaches. Why? Because Fisher had lost his drive. Eventually, this lack of drive led to whiffing on recruits. that got backed up by dropping academic standards to get recruits who really should not have been on an elite college team. It culminated in disastrous QB play by a combination of injuries, bad recruiting, and terrible QB prep...he was fired for this in 2017. Sounds familiar only because people are people and few people ever surmount repetitive human behavior.

It actually doesnt matter one bit that he is a "Veteran who served our country". Literally not at all
Veterans can be just as much of an ####### as anyone else, it doesnt give them a pass on dealing with the repercussions of their actions.

You're correct in a way, it matters because he is a human being, and he does not deserve for his life to be ruined because he questions a football coach on a radio call in show. Literally!

Correct he is a human being and he likely would receive the same blowback if he wasnt a veteran, hence why it doesnt matter. Just tired of seeing folks throw out the veteran thing as though it matters.
Meh "ruined"??? Thats a bit strong and probably an assumption. Unless of course you know him personally.
I can tell you are on his side of this, his. Its not that he questioned a coach on a call-in show, its how he went about it. Word choice, inflection and tone all matter. Tyler made poor choices in his method of communication, even if you agree with some of the underlying premise. He is enduring the repercussions of his choices.
I read a lot of your stuff and almost always agree with you and think you add some good stuff at TNET. But I think its a bit disingenuous of you to label his call as simply "questions a football coach on a radio call-in show". Even he admits he went about it poorly

Not that is definitely not OK and those folks are an outright embarrassment. Hopefully nothing has actually occured to him.
But I havent seen or heard of anything that rises to the level of his life being ruined. Sure he caught a metric ton of internet trash talk but thats all I am aware of.

All the Tylers needed to hear what Dabo said, but asking about his home address is highly inappropriate. He shouldn’t have to fear that kind of repercussion for calling in to a talk show.

Several posts on T-Net the past two days wanting to DOX the guy. Several posts on T-Net wanting to get the guys work phone number and home phone number. Several posts on T-Net wanting the guy to get hurt. Several posts on T-Net talking about his girlfriend and how she should leave him. A t shirt has been made about him. Yet the leader of young men, Dabo, has double downed on calling him and idiot and stoking the flames of the fire.
At what point is enough, enough?
Trust me I love all of my Tiger brethren, but come on guys, this has to stop.

DOXing him is not OK, I'd definitely be in the camp of those saying its gone to far. Fortuntely most folks dont know how to do that, its why they are asking on a freaking message board for someone else to do it.
I think its mostly run its course and I am guessing after this Saturday it will die down a bunch.

Does anybody think that what Dabo is currently doing is worth a tenth of a billion dollars? I bet I could coach Clemson to a .500 record and I'd do it for a mere $50 million.

Dabo called him an idiot, not sure why. Nothing Tyler said was over the top, rude, remotely close to what an idiot would say. He was asking questions. So like I said, if I HAD to pick one thing he did wrong, it was bringing up Dabo's salary.

Why even worry about what someone makes. I have never understood that worry. I could care less what anyone on this site makes. None of my business. I currently get paid what the man is willing to pay for my skills and if I don’t like it then I have the freedom to look elsewhere. Dabo making whatever money he makes was what Clemson was willing to pay him. Not one of us had a say in it then, or going forward. The whole salary deal is just something else for people to ##### about.

TattedCop®I normally agree with you but in this matter the guy opened himself up when he brought that kind of stuff up especially when you know he feels like he is doing the best he can and lost 3 heartbreakers. If it wasn’t this guy it was going to be someone else. Dabo seems to take a lot of negativity even when things were going good and to hear someone just flat out ask him about the money, that Clemson decided to pay him mine you, after what he has accomplished at Clemson is a slap in the face.
On another note those wanting to wish the guy physical harm are deranged and need to mind their own business. That’s just stupid.
I honestly feel Dabo will reach back out to this individual and sort it out like level headed men. Could be wrong but it’s what I think will happen even though we may never hear about it.

Dabo is a leader of young men. His initial response, I could be okay with, because of the heat of the moment. When he doubled down the next day, called the guy an idiot for a second time, that is not a leader, in my opinion. Espacially since Tyler apologized. He represents Clemson University, and he should be able to handle a little negative criticism. He should have made a statement since Monday condemning the behavior of others for trying to DOX Tyler and he should condemn the idiotic Tyler shirts. It is embarassing for the University. Dabo should know better, he is supposed to be a leader first then a Coach second. As a leader of young men, he should lead by example. Tyler went overboard, but at least he apologized. Dabo continues to stoke the flames, and this is not the Christian thing to do. Remember, turn the other cheek. After the initial response Monday in the heat of the moment, Dabo has completely mishandled this entire situation.

Group #3: Loves Dabo and what he's done for Clemson University and the football program. Thinks he deserves the financial rewards because of it. Has concerns with important decisions on portal usage, NIL, and hiring. Voices concerns for purpose of having debates and exchange of ideas on TNet.
Group #3 has discovered that TNet is an echo chamber for 95% of the contributors.

I think I fall into this group. I think Dabo will be and is the best coach Clemson has ever had. It doesn't mean I don't think the program is currently slipping and it didn't start this year.
Is he the man to get us back to the mountain top? I think all groups hope so.
