My simplistic explanation of what is wrong with Clemson ...

... offense this year.
First of all a disclaimer: I have no clue if the problem is OL, WR, QB, the players or the coaches. But, I have complete confidence that Dabo knows and will work extremely hard to fix it in the off season, if not before. Heck, I don't even know how bad the problem is. It may not be nearly as bad as it appears. (It may be time to panic, but it may not be.)
Now, with that said, here is what I see as the problem.
1. Coaches say, "Here is our offense. The players should be able to run it."
2. Coaches say, "Here is what the players can do. So, here is our offense."
Coaches who live in #1 generally don't last long. As one college coach told me years ago, when talking to the assistants and making a game plan, I continually remind them, 'It's not about what we know, it's about what they know'."
Another coach put it this way, "Never expect the players to do something they can't do."
I have no idea if that is the problem with the offense this year, but it's as good a guess as any.

But its blocking, throwing, and getting wr open that we cant do. Seems like with our recruiting that should be doable.

The blocking has been decent the last few games

But, DJ and the receivers aren’t meshing properly.
Who knows if the errant throws are because the QB threw it wrong or the WR ran through wrong route?
Maybe it’s all that.
But one thing is for sure ... when DJ does throw a nice pass, the WRs and TEs have got to catch it.

Just be the best at what you do, no matter how simplistic. You can always add new twists & plays. Use your best mismatches to win the game on offense & defense.

im glad im not the only one who had this thought. folks on here could not have been worse in their treatment of Stoudt. but when Chad got out of the way Stoudt looked like Heisman material.

I feel like we’ve adjusted to personnel in the past on both offense and defense. This year it seems we are not catering plays to the personnel like we did with KB, Trevor, Tajh and DW4.
I just throw my hands up and say, own it and fix it, I’m not smart enough to see what it is.
Someone mentioned that when Bama loses or doesn’t win a natty Saban adjusts and tweeks and tries to get back to winning it. They also pointed out we made no changes after losing to LSU and now after OSU, but we clearly have way more issues to fix. My worry is we did what Jimbo has did for years, and admittedly I don’t follow recruiting and camps and what not for FSU, but he just let the o line stay a problem until it broke the program… did we do the same? I don’t think so because we have recruited it better, but maybe it’s not talent and it’s technique, maybe there are issues I don’t even realize.
I guess we shall see.

Simply, hire a younger O-line coach who can communicate

with younger players. 67 years old, with the pension he must have, he could live very well...with all of his extended players too, or if Dabo likes him that much, make him a consultant..

I have been watching O lines since myself and older bro

played O line in H.S. and older Bro at Clemson in the early 60's. The coach was Dr Bill Hunter, who volunteered coach at Daniel and at Clemson for Freshman team. He taught players to play as one, it was a beautiful sight to see these guys moving out together. I think McClain would be fantastic.

Hall of Fame coaches in both basketball and football, design their offenses and defenses around their players. The great coaches have a philosophy and add or subtract based on the players they have. Our team this year, is just not as talented as past year's teams but an even bigger piece is they may not have the desire, heart and intelligence of prior teams.

My simplistic explanation of what is wrong with Clemson offense this year is rum Roll Please; WE SUCK. Every team in college football, with the exception of Alabama it seems has that one season every so often where the team doesn't jell, they don't show up, they are an 8 cylinder car running on 7,the playbook might as well be Chinese, the competition catches up, the stars are not aligned correctly, the coach recruits a 5 star athlete from half way across the country when the guy he really need to recruit was the 3.5 star recruit from right down the street. So that is where Clemson is, just playing out the season. Dabo can still obtain most of his seasons goal but he had better find a fix quick or we might be playing the Mienkie Car Crap or Papa John Toilet Bowl game in late December instead of a New Years Day game.

What a load of crap!

DJ was a player everybody I; the country wanted and everybody on TNet (perhaps you were the lone exception) was ecstatic to sign.
Clemson fans may indeed be simply “playing out the season” ( you seem to be) ... but the players and coaches are not.
There is a lot of time left to get this season back on track.
I’m glad you don’t have any input or influence on the team and the coaches.

Get the linemen in their normal positions and let them do what they do! It’s better to do one thing well than to do many things half a$$.

The "Never expect the players to do something they can not do" has been my issue when fall practice began. Instead of leaving the 3 OL play their normal positions and training the 2 other positions, all 5 were moved around and all 5 had to learn new positions. When I heard in August "We want to get the best 5 lineman out there," I knew were are knee deep in Do-Do.

Yeah, how do you have the practice time available to cross train when the line cannot perform adequately under moderate stress of a lower tier ACC team's DL.

I am with you and your comments. Not qualified here to point to solutions. My wife who is astute on just about everything, noted to me that she thinkgs there are multiple problems and they can't fix them all at once. There you go. Right on by me.
I've been an early fan, student, lifelong contributor to all Clemson programs and current fan. So, I'm not quitting now.

Through five games this year, it’s been a lot of #1.

It’s easy to blame execution, but if great players aren’t executing it with consistency then it isn’t a very good plan and needs to be altered.

I still maintain "poor execution" means "poor coaching" - especially at the level of Clemson. A high school team may have good coaching but the players just aren't good enough to execute. An FCS team may have good coaching but cannot execute against a good FBS team.
But, "poor execution" at the level of Clemson (or even FSU) means "we aren't doing a good enough job teaching them how to execute."
