"leadership" inside Littlejohn:
Went to the USF / Loyola-Chicago game Saturday afternoon. Loyola-Chicago - a mid-major that has made the Dance a LOT, it seems, as best as I seem to remember.
We get included in some perks at USF, one of which is the coach of USF, Amir Abdur-Rahim, comes into the Hardwood Club and talks for a bit about the game, status of USF players, talks about the previous game, etc.
He looked around at the 25 or so people that were there and said - "it doesn't look like we have spies in here" - and then proceeded to tell how Loyola runs a fast-paced game to try & wear folks down so that by the end of the game, they would steamroll their opponent due to the opponent being tired. He talked about a gameplan that included heavy substituting and utilizing timeouts in BOTH halfs.
I thought that was pretty interesting - so I watched the substituting.
It seemed like every single stoppage in play, USF would substitute. Every single time - and sometimes 2 or 3 at a time. They would sometimes have a player come out, wait for play to start back up, and go right back to waiting in front of the scorer's table.
Loyola was ahead a lot of the first half, USF came back towards half a little, and USF kept up the substituting.
If was back and forth in the early 2nd half and then USF eventually won by 13 or something like that.
To me, it seemed like USF wore down Loyola - those guys looked gassed.
USF isn't deep - USF isn't very good, really - but they had a plan to counterattack what they knew Loyola was going to do. USF ws favored by 1.5pts.
Amir makes about a milly a year - and he can gameplan.
Why did WE talk about what Memphis was going to do AFTER the game instead of scheming for that AHEAD of the game ?
SO frustrating. Not bashing - just wondering where the leadership is . . . . .

did I say I wasn't pointing out the GLARING deficiencies of our head coach that has been going on for more times than not of the last 13 years.
Please - I give you permission - to C&P the Tmales where I said I never called out the woeful performance - by & large - of our basket ball program.
I ABSOLUTELY am fed up with the Groundhog Day that is our basketball program.
It SHOULD BE and SHOULD HAVE BEEN consistently better than the last 13 years . . . .
And it starts with the leadership at the top.

After being banned, you sent me a Tmale saying - in part:
"We [meaning you and I, I guess ?] wouldn't have ever been cool if you bashed the basketball program then as much as you do now...Pity you can't see you were the change, not me"
I responded that when people "bash" the basketball program, YOU lash out and make it personal - hence the ban - albeit a day or less ?
I said I wanted our current guy to win every single game he ever is the head coach of for us and rename parts of Littlejohn for him - but that will never happen.
At no point did I say
ONE: I DON'T "bash" the basketball program
and
TWO: That I would stop "bashing" the basketball program as long as this Groundhog Day mess keeps happening year after year.
Please C&P where I said I would or will.
The reason people - myself included - "bash" the basketball program more than we did 5 years ago - which is the change that you cite as to why you respond so aggressively - is because, for the most part, it is the same ol' crap year after year after year.
And I didn't take anything out about my description of the leadership we have is akin to a doorknob . . . that is what we have - a doorknob. Never changed or edited anything in my sig or anywhere else changing that opinion / analogy I have of our leadership.

So to be clear, brownell has game planned and and coached well vs every other team we have played this season, but he forgot to game plan vs. memphis?
This is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've read all day.

And forgetting to game plan against a tournament team led to only a 2 point loss on their home court. Kind of impressive.

Questioning his gameplan (on a message board no less) is fair game. The top 6 players in the rotation played all but 9 minutes (NINE!!). It was clear that we had several TOs from the big men that were due to being gassed.
Just for comparison 10 players got at least 12 minutes against Bama (1 of those was Clark who obviously wasn't available). I realize matchups probably played into this, but it's not unfair to question the playing time vs Memphis.

I was slightly frustrated, but not enough to post an olemike “I can’t find my teeth” thread. Early season, Q1 loss, etc.
Y’all have a merry Christmas!
This season is on Neff regardless of this one loss. Or “lose” in that wise one’s musings. Guess the 9 wins are on him too.
Maybe you should’ve reached out to Tony Bennett with this advice for tonight’s contest. He’s a hall of fame caliber coach, but got run out of the gym this evening.
