The time has come for Shipley

to get 5 carries and Mafah 15. It is also time to see what any of our other backs can give us. How many times does Shipley get to fumble and drop passes and not be replaced? He is just as inconsistent at running back as Cade is at qb.

I understand our line is not great, but it’s not like Gallman and Etiene had NFL linemen blocking for them except for John Simpson.

Gallman and Etienne are at least 2 full levels better than Shipley & Mafah.

It also doesn't hurt to have a all-pro passing game to open up the running game.

So that leads to tge obvious question: How did we get to this position where our two starting running backs are 2 levels below Gallman and Etienne?

I know the answer. Do you?

Fumble aside, the missed goal line block

is the main Shipley “technique” play that jumps out at me. Instead of tying up the player in a block, he shoulders him poorly into the running lane. Then after that player tackles Cade, he runs over to put hands on him like he’s even trying.

Similar to poor WR blocking, thats on CJ — who was not really known for blocking himself.

I love Mafah. He is a load to tackle, but he can be prone to fumbles (see Coot game last season). Maybe time to see if the young guys can create a spark.

Also the running backs and all others prob realize the problems we got with coaches. It’s a growing concern and you can tell by the way this team plays all ain’t right

Love & respect CJ but not a RB coach imho

but is good for a recruiting name but most high school players have no memory of his glory years.

ETN had 4 NFL guys block for him. We won’t know until a few years if any of these current guys make the league.

There was a play last night where we were in the red zone and Ship ran through a wide open hole, only had safety to beat, tried a very awkward juke, and was easily tackled. It was a play most D1 backs would have easily scored on.
