3 NCAA appearances (once with Purnell's recruits)
1 past the round of 64
How can anyone defend this clown? He's been awful, if you look at the results.
There is no other way around it, if you can only construct 2 teams in 14 years that are among the top 64 teams, then you suck!

It reeks of an agenda to bash Brownell.
As I mentioned in another thread, coaching is a “what have you done for me lately?” business.
The fact is that our basketball program is trending up.
We won a bunch of games last year and finished third in the ACC.
We are in even better position this year to make the NCAA Tournament, and are capable of making a run.
Our 2024 recruiting class is excellent.
If some of you want to bring up Brad’s entire tenure to try to bash him, that’s your right, but it’s illogical in an industry where recent success reigns supreme.

You certainly need to look at a body of work, if you disagree, then fine. I have no problem with someone defending a coach they like.
This "best" team is 7-8 in the ACC, and you want to give him a lifetime contract?

You can’t say recent success reigns supreme (which I agree with) and then blame history on our failures.
Kids today have the attention span similar to the gestation period of a fruit fly.
All the kids being recruited today have never known anything but BB at failure's

We can put any name on the subject of Brownell, but the truth is, he argued that his team was disrespected last season bc they didn't make the NCAA tournament, and yet that team was 1 and done in the NIT tournament!!!

He’s a decent basketball coach in many respects _ but in crunch time, both he and his teams simply don’t get the “win”. There’s periodic breakdowns in execution in ever game but notably at end game situations. Which brings us to the “team”. He simply does not recruit at a high enough level to overcome average coaching.
The result is a slightly above average b-ball team with a low ceiling. Since Clemson fans have seen this for 14 years, there’s little excitement or enthusiasm for the MBB program. The fruit is simply withering on the vine.
Truth be told, it’s a 50:50 proposition if Clemson gets a new coach whether results will be better or worse. However, there will be momentary excitement, enthusiasm and energy! A lot of fans are ready for that!

I personally don't think that Brownell could win a NCAA basketball tournament with a full bench of 5 star players, and his fans would make the same excuses for him, it was this or that, or the Refs stole it!!!
