since his public TNet bio states he played last 3 yrs of coach Frank Howard’s (1967, 1968, 1969) as QB & PK.
Lives now retired in beautiful Pendleton.
Loved his mentioning in a post how he & team in those days dressed out at Fike and would sometimes have to walk across the street to DV in a hailing rain, etc..and one time they drummed a terrible (no wins all season) Maryland squad like 40-0.
Guessing that Wild Hogg is either Billy Ammons, (not charlie Waters who was listed at QB in 1967, 1968), Tom English, Jimmy Addison, Dan Wiggins or Rick Gilstrap.

Nope. Who was first team QB all spring and into fall camp in 1969, then blew out both shoulders before the first game, never played a down at QB that year and was relegated to PK duties?

but shoulder injuries are bad, take long to heal and trust they are allowing you to play Pickleball, at least!

You are correct. Shoulder injuries are bad and they hurt me to this day, 54 years later. Larry Bowman has done surgery on one of them and the other will soon happen as the pain is getting worse. The price ya pay to play football, I guess.

I feel a sense of sleuthing accomplishment. Now I’m going to have to stalk your placekicking achievements. Had you stayed healthy you may have been Clemson’s own George Blanda (I’m not that old but definitely a historian).

The PK accomplishments were not that great. I really didn't want to do it. I did set the Clemson record tie the ACC record at the time with 3 field goals vs. Maryland in that 40-0 blowout. That record lasted about 15 minutes after the soccer kickers hit campus. Kicking gave me something to do while my shoulders healed, which they never quite did. Lit it up in the spring with Charlie Waters at Flanker and future Steeler John McMakin at SE and Jim Sursavage at TE. We were headed for a big year........then the injuries.

One of my best buds from Clemson is a McMakin and played football. John McMakin the NFL TE is his great uncle, I think I have that right.

I was still in elementary school back then. If you ever gave a chin strap or sweat band to one of the kids "storming" the field after a game, it could have been me.

since my best Clemson friend is from Pendleton also; he’s Larry Vernon Walters whose brother(s) you may have known and their Dad was Textile Professor..a super good family.
Larry is retired some years too, has 3 Sons and lives in Kernersville NC near W-Salem and attends virtually football home game and stills yells at the refs.

Wild Hogg did your years overlap with Jimmy King? That was about the time he played I believe. He was a great friend of mine. He sadly passed a few years ago.

My freshman year. I had the pleasure of seeing 5 loosing seasons while at Clemson. I saw 3 Clemson Head Coaches, stuck around in '73 for Red Parker's 1st year to try and beat the streak! I certainly appreciate our recent success and have been at all 3 National Championship games. Thank you Wild Hogg, even when we didn't win much it was still fun to watch!
