I don't know if any of you have given this any thought But, I haven't seen or heard about the transfer portal being a big help to any Tiger player that has left Clemson through the portal, or even with most of the players that are still hanging out in the revolving door of the portal. IMO personally, it don't seen that the transfer portal has been a good choice for most players that has used it. Bad decision by the NCAA, IMO!!!

Chez Melusi

Aug 21, 2022, 8:36 PM

I think Chez was benefitting from transferring to Wisconsin. The injury he sustained was unfortunate, but he was on his way to stardom.

Outside of that: "I think you are spot on"!

Maybe Nyles Pinckney or Jordan Williams who were key players on their new school defense.

Mike Jones - hadn't heard much noise about him at all out of LSwho.
Bowman - which for the record; was something I totally understood with the DIF that was local here in SC. But, what's he doing at UF?

I wish them all the best and follow them when I can. Once a Tiger! You get a certain level of respect when the announcer goes: "the former Clemson Tiger transfer"!

Most do not receive another scholarship, not many happy endings.
I wish Lyn J the best, but he has chosen a difficult path…..

Stark Reality

Aug 21, 2022, 6:51 PM

He is undersized, a step slow, and runs upright. He is a capable back up at a mid tier BCS school but if he wants to start somewhere he will need to drop down to an FCS school. Seems like he is having trouble grasping that but he certainly would not be the first. Wish him the best, but he needs to focus on getting a degree if he does not already have one.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So all of the upper tier programs that wanted him were wrong

Re: TNET: Former Clemson RB leaves Tennessee program

Aug 22, 2022, 7:27 AM

Like Dereck Watson and Demetris Summers, he's blown any chance of ever making it to the pros.

Too many times, players think their god given skills is all they need. They fail to realize how hard the truly great ones continually work to improve. There are tons of kids with talent, they have to have the desire to push themselves, and never be satisfied, to be great.

Ha!

Wouldn't that be funny! If a coach that recruited a kid leaves; the kid should be allowed to leave w/o penalty. If a kid leaves his commitment to that coach/school/program - sit out a year!

He was BMOC in high school and thought he would be the same with us. Nothing is given in Dabo's system you must earn playing time and a starting position. So having said that he did not earn the starting job last year and could not accept the truth he was not BMOC any more.

He has IMO ended his career in football.

Aug 21, 2022, 8:21 PM

This makes me sick…. Idk what went wrong between him and CJ spiller but goodness I can’t help but feel like he made a huge mistake leaving Clemson. Man was a known commodity at Clemson and had a chance to get touches while having a stable to rotate around and keep him fresh and likely free of injuries.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m not sure it was a mistake if he wants a chance to play football.

Aug 21, 2022, 9:31 PM

It was clear that he wasn’t going time play much here. All the talk of him being in Dabo’s “love shack” and then Dabo telling the media that Lynn-J needs to grow up. It seemed that things had deteriorated beyond repair here.

To be honest...

Aug 21, 2022, 8:30 PM

I have trouble hating on this kid. I LOVED him when he was here. I thought he had the chance to break a big one every time he touched the ball. I am troubled that the rules of the NCAA are such a mess that he has been allowed to bounce around like a golf ball on a cart path to half the universities in the South. By the laws of our land he is technically a man but I was dumb as a box of rocks at 22 and I really believe that part of the job of the NCAA is to care for these learners and not give them the unfettered freedom to jump from school to school.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Needs to put the work in to get his head down & block too

Aug 22, 2022, 3:26 AM

He just needs to work on his craft to be a great RB. He’s talented enough if he perfects his craft to play as a backup on the next level.

CJ was trying to help him be a leader and a complete back but he thought he already knew it all.

I hope he works hard over the next year and finds a good program that he can show leadership and humility at while working hard to be the best RB he can be. I hope he gets a shot at being an NFL RB too.

We really should pray for Lyn J to succeed. He’s young an capable of being better than he is now.

Let's face it: LJD just wasn't that good

Aug 21, 2022, 9:34 PM

He isn't super fast, strong or elusive and didn't do anything particularly well.

I thought LJD showed promise as a freshman but he never built on that.

Not surprised he failed to crack the rotation at Tennessee.

At this point, he's gotta face reality and just accept a scholarship from whoever offers him one and try to maximize his effort towards getting a degree. His long term future is probably not football. Time to find a new path.

Another example of why Dabo is a great coach and mentor

Aug 22, 2022, 8:58 AM

He brings in young men, teaches them life lessons (compared to other programs, very few have maturity or legal issues) and like in Dixon case - got the best out of him (then Dixon decided he needed change). As others have mentioned, very limited examples of Clemson transfer portal players excelling.
We are fortunate and blessed with Dabo’s leadership.

Aug 22, 2022, 1:32 PM

That he was taking plays off in practice, got some one-on-one coaching from Coach Heupel, and wasn't improving. Then reportedly had some kind of on field clash during practice and was kicked off Tennessee's team.

As with any story like this, there's probably more to come.
