Bates really wanted that "coordinator" title.
Hard to blame him. This puts him in the pipeline to be groomed by Venables and Roof, and take that big next step. Pedigree is everything in football and he's about to add "DC of Oklahoma" to his CV...which basically doubles his salary and puts him in line to be a head coach and at some of the elite schools.
He'd have been a fool to turn it down. We just didn't have that to offer him this second.

This is not the point my Tiger friend.. BV and Dabo had a deal not to
steal players or coaches but we see that BV is a Judus. If you love
him so much, just be an Okie fan..I am a dyed in the wool Tiger and
screw other teams etc.. I guess thats the way BV feels so be it.

If anybody got stabbed in the back it was Bates & Reed. After listening to the press conferences CDS had told Godwin & Conn years ago that he envisioned them as replacements when CBV leaves. This was not known by Bates or Reed. As much as I like and respect CDS this was real sh!++y. You can't blame Bates for moving on and if CBV see his value as a Co-DC, so be it.

It's "Judas", friend, and expecting a guy to stick around when there's the possibility of doubling his salary and putting him on the track for one day being a head coach is...ridiculous. And I'll stay a Tiger fan, thank you.
And Dabo's not the sort to try to keep a man who no longer wants to stay. You try to block a guy's future - particularly when you've just passed him over for a promotion! - the guy's going to go sour on you and whatever value he had is likely gone anyway. Far better to shake the man's hand, wish him well, send him on his way, and part on good terms.
In life people don't stay at the same company or organization forever. People have ambitions. You often have their services for a length of time and that's it, and then life circumstances change. Just how it is. And nobody can argue Todd Bates hasn't given fine service to Clemson. He has. He just took a promotion we ourselves didn't offer him, period.
I'll never blame a man for that, and I promise you, neither will Dabo. And Bates was a good coach but he is replaceable. There will be no shortage of fine DL coach candidates lining up for Bates' old job. History tells us Dabo usually backfills well...if there's a problem with Dabo's tenure, honestly, it's that coaches seem to tend to get too comfie and settled here, and sometimes seem to lose their edge and hunger over time.
It's healthy to turn the coaching roster over from time to time. It was fairly apparent this season Clemson needed a coaching-roster refresh anyhow.

Yeah, I ain't mad about it. At least he waited until after early NSD and the bowl game. At this point, everyone is fair game. The season is over. If he would have raided the whole staff the moment he left, that would be a little more sketchy, but still also fair.

BV has nothing to cause me to lose respect for him. Todd Bates I believe had sour grapes and he is the only coach in Dabos HC tenure that has shown this. I could be wrong as I am many times. He moved from Assistant HC and recruiting Cord to a Co Def Cord and I feel this was more of a lateral move. He wanted out and Dabo felt he could hurt the Clemson program the least being in the Midwest under the tutelage of BV.

You say he has doubled his salary. Show me where he is making 1.6 million. It may be so but so far just speculation and not facts.
