He was good but not close to best shooter at Clemson. Michael Tait, Anthony Jenkins, Chris Whitney were all better right off the top of my head.

Guys. Whoever posted this has got to be from my era. This goes back to the early 1970’s with Tate’s Locke as our coach but we got three of the best basketball players in the NATION! Skip Wise, Tree Rollins, and Stan Rome. Beloved alumni and former football payer B.C. Inabinet (sp?) helped recruit these guys…if you catch my drift.
Anyway, Skip Wise was a one of a kind.

But Tree and Stan R. among best 3 in nation? Nuh-uh. That's just orange colored glasses stuff. Tree - obviously a great defender and shot blocker, but not a great scorer. Rome: very fine athlete, no doubt, but not near the top as a basketball player. More of a defender but an average shooter with mid-range only.
Let's at least try to be objective about Clemson players, and I loved them all. I'd have to look up the players of the time at places like UNC, Duke and other places, to name better ones.

Skip Wise was a tragic case. He was the best player in the conference and the 1st Freshman All Conference and he could just control the game. His life after leaving Clemson was just a sad situation.

Story about Vince - Clemson was playing in the Great Alaska Shootout in 1981. Vince went down under the basket and got a Colles fracture of the right wrist. Since I was chief of hospital services at Elmendorf AFB, I was able to call our orthopedist; we drove Vince over to the ER, and had it set right away. Really nice kid - we had to keep reassuring him that it would be good as ever. The first time that the Shootout was held in the new Sullivan Arena, my wife, son, and I, dressed all in orange, of course, looked across the court, and there was another family dressed the same way! We ran across at halftime and hugged each other - became friends for years.

Haven't seen Bruce Martin mentioned here. His 44% 3 point rate his senior year was better than Oglesby, Whitney, Girard, etc. He could stroke from 3.

I went to every home game in 89-90. David Young was a great shooter but was streaky. That team was good enough to win it all.

After all these years, I was just a kid, but I can still name the line-up for that team. Rollins, Rome, Croft, Wise, Jo Jo Bethea.
