Question for the bored about recruiting.

I teach at a school in Colombia (South America), and there is this phenomenal soccer player at the school in 10th grade. It's a small private international school, but the local professional leagues in Colombia have taken notice, and he is training with their lower leagues in the mornings.

There are no contracts or anything like that; they are just grooming him.

He mentioned to me today that he would be interested in playing college soccer in the States and try to sign on with an American professional team because even they pay more than the ones in Colombia.

Should I contact the Clemson coaches? The kid is really, really good. Or is it not cool?

I would provide him with the appropriate contact information and let him contact the folks at Clemson himself. But then you will never see this suggestion because I am among the scores of posters you have on ignore. Hope this helps.

One of my nieces works in Athletics with Soccer. I will ask her what the proper protocols are and whom to contact.

Hey Pacific beach tiger.......I spoke with person in the soccer office and they said to have the kid send a video to them and they will take a look and if he seems qualified, they will definitely contact him. They just need to see him on tape first. OK. Send video to: msoccer@clemson.edu

First thing is to take his picture and hand him $100 USD for his name, image, and likeness. Tell him that's the way it's done in America. Then you've kind of got him on retainer until he can be evaluated by the coaches.

If at a private international school, start with the administration

there. There are pathways for kids to play soccer in the US, in fact I think about 30% of men's D1 players are foreign.

Calling/emailing a coach saying "ya need to see this kid" will go nowhere.

He'll need to fill out NCAA eligibilty forms and at his age he may not even be recruitable.

Additionally, he has ZERO chance without film. If he doesn't have a highlight tape or some type of footage for a coach to review, he'd better start sorting that out asap.

There are companies out there that do (free of charge to the player, I think college programs pay them) help identify these types of players and may even have local scouts who's opinions can be trusted to some degree by college coaches.

It's very doable for the kid (assuming he is good enough) to get to college in the US, just know there are many steps to the process and he'll need help accessing those resources.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure you know if he can be a Clemson Man or not.
