QB pipeline

I think we all agree that Clemson needs an NFL caliber QB to be a serious threat on the national stage.

That being said, which of these QBs do you consider to be potentially NFL caliber ?

Cade Klubnik - Jr.
Trent Pearman - RS So.
Christopher Vizzina - RS Fr.
Colby Shaw - RS Fr.

Blake Hebert - 2025 commit

2026 offers ?

Don’t know anything about Hebert but not so much on the others. Who ever is recruiting QBs has fallen down on their job. I get criticism when I say Chad Morris was our best ever QB recruiter and offensive coach. I use to never get to sit down with his offense on the field and now I’m in a fetal position hoping we don’t give the game away with our offense

Agreed. Coach Morris was criticized for not being able to make in-game adjustments. He also didn’t have the kind of Defense backing up his offense that we have grown accustomed to since Venables, and now Goodwin. I liked that we had an identity with him. It was break-neck speed, wear defenses out with 80-95+ plays a game. We were a great offense with the Scelliot duo as well. Ever since Jeff Scott left it seems like our offense doesn’t know who it is.

I’d like to pick a style, recruit to its strengths, and go with it. I wouldn’t care if it was a Run-heavy power, or a high-speed spread style. As long as it fit.

Right now we have an underpowered OL, a Power RB, a couple small speedy WR, and a receiving TE. These pieces don’t really fit any overall style/scheme I can think of.

You know why Jeff Scott was important to the offense? Its because those WR did not get on the field unless they could block and spend hours after practice on those pass catching machines. That makes a difference in the QB's confidence knowing that your WR are going to catch the ball and will block on those WR screens/ RPO's.

Chad Morris recruited exactly two QBs at Clemson DW4 and Chad Kelly. He hit a home run on one and hit a bong on the other. If you're gonna talk about best ever you don't wanna even consider the guy who recruited Trevor? It's like saying Bill OBrien is the best QB coach ever because he worked with Tom Brady for a few years

Spot on. We have many posters who struggle with:

Causation indicates that one event causes another. Correlation only identifies that there is a relationship between two events or outcomes. In a situation where two variables have a similar response to an event, you may assume that one event caused the other or that the two variables are somehow directly connected.

Morris was a major reason why we became elite.

His offense was revolutionary. It was fun and fast. It put up a lot of points. Naturally, these features attract top QBs.

He also brought toughness and grit to a program that had earned a reputation for being weak and inconsistent. One of his first orders of business when he arrived was injecting a more aggressive mentality within the program. It not only helped the offense, but set the stage for the whole team and program.

That foundation led to our rise to greatness. Morris doesn't get nearly enough credit for his contributions.

For some reason which I will never understand, we have gradually become a much slower paced offense. We have gone away from the offense that won us championships. It started under Elliott and Scott, then got slower once Scott left. Riley's offense doesn't seem any faster paced.

Not surprisingly, the quality of our offensive skill position players has decreased along with the slower speed.

Has anyone ever asked Dabo why we don't run an up tempo offense anymore? Other than the rare possession where were might be trying to score before the half or at the end of a game, it's slow as molasses.

I can tell exactly why. One, we don't have the talent to do it. Second, is kind of hard to run up to the offense when you're in third and long every time.

You can't say that anyone has fallen down on their job because we don't currently have an NFL quality quarterback. Thise are simply too few and far between to make that the standard.

As far ax Chad Morris being the best quarterback recruiter, the facts don't really back up that claim. Tajh Boyd was already here before Morris was hired. Morris left after the 2014 regular season, and Trevor Lawrence didn't get here until 2018. The Deshaun Watson was really the only quarterback you can say Morris played a significant part in recruiting.

Pretty sure none of them is a legitimate NFL prospect but according to our coaching staff they are all ballers and grinders (whatever that is worth). At this point those adjectives don't seem to translate much into on field performance.

If you ask Dabo he will tell you that they will all be great.***
