Punting Observation ..........

Darn I feel like a dog even bringing this up considering we are playing great, have a really fine young man punting for us, but I keep wondering when we will get punter that can flip the field. It seems like everyone else we play has one. I'm sure Will is the best we have and he has been adequate, but yesterday I kept waiting for one of our punts from our own 35 to be fielded at State's 15 yards line. It seemed like every time they fielded it at their 30. Maybe I'm missing something like hang time and zero return yards ..... just don't know.
I think we have a great punter from Florida that will be here next year. Chance he will move ahead of Spiers (yeah I know, it will be based on how he performs in practice).

That's because they punt so much.

Well, the return lack of return yard are pretty important.

44 and he boomed a couple, had a touchback, and they had little in returns when we punted. Not a tremendous difference as long as we don't drop a punt and they don't break a long return.

That was aided by the fact that he rolled one about 15 yards. It was an awful kick, so awful it rolled Don't know if you can really improve the punting with more practice, maybe a little bit. But we aren't getting much distance for sure. You either can generate the leg speed or you can't.

...that Dabo is absolutely perfect at recruiting with only one flaw!
He sticks his foot in his mouth when talking to the mothers of punters.

We have one of the class on 2019 best punters committed, Aidan Swanson. Here is what is said of him: Swanson recently earned an invite to the Kohl's Kicking National Underclassman Challenge in January of 2018. He was very impressive during the charting of his punts with multiple going 55+ yards. Swanson has long levers and the lefty is currently one of the best punters in his class. He creates clean rotation, excellent distance, and superior hang time. He hit multiple punts throughout the day that were 50+ yards with hang time over 4.5 seconds. Also a standout kickoff guy (69 avg.) and a solid field goal striker (6 made). Swanson also attended the Kohl's Southern Showcase Camp in the spring of 2016. The ball jumps off his foot well. His leg speed gives him a chance to do some very positive things as a specialist. He has a smooth left footed motion on his punting.

Yeah, I knew he was coming in and that is who I was referring to. I assume he will get a legitimate shot at punting if he performs well in practice. I was on the sidelines of the GT game in Atlanta and was very close to Will Spiers as he was dropping the ball like punters do on the sideline trying to get their drop right. He is tall and lanky and looks like the perfect build for a punter. I guess it just looks like he should ber able to get more leverage on his kicks.
Side note .... since he was a QB in high school (pretty good I hear) and was being considered for our 4th string spot, I wonder if we have a fake punt with a pass to Wilkins or another special team player. Guessing we do and are looking for the time to use it!!!

Not a snowball chance that Spiers is replaced even if the kid can kick 60 yarders. You are a fool if you think so.

Yes ... because TL did not replace KB. Newsflash. It happens when performance disparity is HUGE.

Duuuuuh ........ thought I had seen every play this year in person or on TV. I would probably remember them if I saw them, but just don't recall the games. Did the plays work?
