they know (the selection comm) they should be in, i'm absolutely convinced at this point they are compelled to put a certain number of Big10 and SEC teams in based on the huge tv contracts aka money they have invested in them.
case in point a 19-14 michigan state team playing a mississippi state team that lost 5 of there last 6 games. both not close to pitt.

State won the tourney. That should have helped.
They were beaten out by
Yale
Uab
Grand canyon
Charleston
James Madison
Vermont
Oakland.
Maybe a few were conference champs.

Their non-conference strength of schedule was in a 300 and no team has ever made the NCAA tournament with a non-conference schedule at 300
