Saw Jimmy after ND game at his famous basement Tap Room and we chatted about his Dad, 165 win record broken, shared couple stories about Coach Howard and he poured me a cold Ale costing only $1 (Happy Hour?).

As you can see, Jimmy at about 80 is rather crispy looking, like me @ 82, but I remember him from years ago being very muscled, athletic & handsome since he played FB & Rugby.

Still doesn’t take sheet from rowdy customers Or ones who drop in, watch free TV and don’t order a drink! LOL.

Believe he started the Tap Room around 1979.

That's where I would usually go to start and finish the night at bars back in the day.

I drank quite a few beers there in my time from 82-86. Good times.

Great little bar...mostly for the locals now that aren't students.

I dropped in and saw him a few years ago, I played a little rugby with the team. I graduated in 1979, I think he was couple doors up from Nick`s before 1979 , but could be wrong

I hung out at Nicks during my grad years. Loved Ken and Esther and the fried food they served.

I played from ‘74 to ‘78. Most of the 1st 15 weren’t students. Some had been students and rugby was a contributing factor in putting aside the scholarly life. Jimmy was our undisputed leader and every bit as funny as his father.

I heard more than one person say, regarding football, that Jimmy would have started at any other school.

Spent too much time there as a student. Cold cheap beer back in the day when all of your tastes were not too discerning.

one time in the early 80s with a buddy of mine so we could explore downtown. I was driving my old beige 1964 Ford Falcon.

Anyway, when we got back to the car, some 40 ish guy and his wife or GF were waiting for us. Seems he couldn't get his car out and he was certain my car was the reason. He was so angry and calling us young punks or something of the sort and seemed to want to fight. We acted apologetic and got out of there ASAP. Wonder if that was you Bill.

Did you ever do the elephant walk into the tap room, in the winter time? I've been pretty successful at forgetting that trauma.

Jimmy was one year ahead of me. I saw him almost daily, going to class in the middle of winter, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. I never understood how he did it.

He was built like a bull then and has aged a lot - but then I look in the mirror and he looks great!

Two of my kids grew up sitting on Frank's knee. Did not meet his son. Kind of regret that.

Spoke with Jimmy when we were in town a few weeks ago. I reminded him about us talking back in 1980 about us both having Frank Howard as a father. We had a good laugh over that. I was a regular at Sloan Street Tap Room in the early 80s.

Jimmy’s looking pretty good especially considering his age and the wear and tear of living up to his reputation.
