and is, in my opinion, the biggest difference in the Bakich Era vs the previous . . .

Coach B has stated, “The first 2 strikes??? . . . it’s your ‘at bat’ . . . the last strike becomes ‘Our at bat’.”

Our Batting Average is Up . . . HRs per Game are down . . . Strikeout Percentages are Down . . . Stolen Bases per Game are drastically Up . . . ALL of these are due to the philosophical hitting mindset change . . .

More balls are being “hit where pitched” . . . less balls “low and away” are trying to be pulled . . . the change is gradual, but it is easily seen . . . and it IS the difference in this Team!!!

Caden Grice is a Prime Example . . . His numbers (attachment) don’t lie . . . his production has changed as the present philosophy took root.

Appreciate the graphics, playing small ball can obviously put more pressure on the opposing teams defense as well.

Yes it has...this team is so much more enjoyable to watch.

I got so tired of Monteball, it became hard to watch. It has taken a little time to change our hitters' approach and bad habits, but it is paying off now and we're hot at the right time.

Moneyball at its finest.

If you want to score runs, you need to get on base. Pitchers can mostly keep you from hitting home runs with accurate pitching, and if you're swinging for home runs against their pitching to prevent home runs, you're probably going to pop up.

There's no real defense against batting for singles and the occasional XBH, then stealing bases to keep the pitcher irritated.

It's like basketball teams that have a way to score when the threes aren't falling. Duke basketball wins titles when the three goes in but can hardly compensate when they don't. Golden State is another example of that.

Long live Bakich!

Another, and often overlooked, byproduct of the new batting approach is that it reeks havoc on opposing pitch counts. Great pitchers are going to get their outs. Its inevitable. If you can get them out of the game earlier and keep the game close its a bonus to the new approach.

It’s night and day and was evident early on even through some of the struggles. I’m back to watching bc we play a style of get runners on, stress pitchers by running on the paths, and let them make mistakes. Although good, these are college players who are prone to make mistakes so force them to versus swing for the fences and strike out.

Now that our pitching is getting healthy and experience is improving, we are a hot team for sure.

Skeeta .... our pitching coaches philosophy is also starting to show up. Maybe not so much the philosophy "pound the strike zone", as it is working with the mechanics of the pitchers, especially like changing Ty Olenchuk's arm slot and having him hide the ball more effectively. It used to be when he came into the game, I immediately looked for a home run ..... not now. We probably still give up too many home runs, but I suspect that will eventually change.

flat with little movement . . . the change in arm slot AND how he holds the ball has created movement and eliminated the “flat”, hit-able stuff . . . Yes, the coaching will make a difference on the mound also . . . I totally agree.
