No Different Than 2016

Sep 5, 2021, 10:17 AM

The Clemson offense started off slow back in 2016. The only difference is that the 2021 team had the bad luck of having to start with a top 5 Georgia team with maybe the best defense in college football instead of unranked Auburn.

There is a big difference, being we had Deshaun and DJ is no Deshaun.

People here in 2016 were wondering if there was something wrong with Deshaun after the first two games. 19 points against Auburn and barely beat Troy at home.

Against Troy, Deshaun was 27/53 292 Yards 2 TD’s
Rushed for 55 yards

Against Auburn, Deshaun was 19/34 248 yards 1TD
Same game Gallman 123 yds 1 TD.

There you have it and I’ll say it again. DJ is no Deshaun!

If anything you are validating his point even more. Than auburn game we couldn’t get anything going on offense and we had DW4 at quarterback. It doesn’t all come together 1 game. If the offense stay like that for the season then yea fire everyone. But I doubt that will be the case. I feel sorry for the acc this year. I don’t think Dabo is going to be merciful. Have to take care of business and do it big to have a shot now.

Clemson fans have become some of the most entitled and whiny fans in the country. We lost 2 games in a row for the first time in a decade and we need to fire and replace everyone on the team. I wonder how many of the people here have only experienced the Dabo days... or whether some of them lived through the Tommy West days and realize just how lucky and blessed we are right now?

We don't know what DJ is yet and I'm not going to throw him under the bus after one bad game. He should have won the ND game last year. He had the best game of any Clemson QB last year in that one and the defense let him down. The last thing we need to do is bench him. We need to support him and get behind him and enjoy the ride as we watch him grow.

He looked terrible last night, but I'm not sure just how good we would have done with Watson or TL. Heck... I've seen TL with that same look in his eye a couple of times against OSU and LSU. Our coaching staff is mostly to blame. Georgia was sacking the quarterback rushing 3-4 and completely stuffed the run. DJ obviously had some areas to improve and could have made some runs in places. That said.... of course he was rattled. He had someone in his face within seconds the whole night. Our coaches did absolutely nothing to take the pressure off of him. In fact, they completely gave up on trying to establish any sort of run game and put even more pressure on him to win it. I haven't felt so bad for a QB since I watched Charlie Whitehurst get pummeled by Texas Tech.... or any qb who was brave enough to play behind FSU's OL the past 5 years...

At the end of the night, Clemson lost by a pick 6 to a top 5 team and held the other team to 3 points on offense. Clemson has an extremely talented but mostly brand new QB, receiving corps and running back corp. Most of them have played very little together and they will improve dramatically as the season goes on and they get comfortable in their roles. Playing like crap in the first game sucks but is also easy to overlook come playoff time if you handle business the rest of the way out.

Nice try

Clemsons OL is terrible, and this isn't a new development (see 2020).

Clemson's offense isn't playoff caliber, not even close. Most Clemson fans saw this coming froma mile away. We knew that unless our OL was significantly better this season we were gonna be in trouble. Well, we're in trouble.

It's hard to say how bad the OL is or how good the Georgia DL is.

or how good the Clemson Defense is or how bad the Georgia offense is...

I guess we'll have to watch the rest of the season to be able to have some real perspective on what we saw last night.

Sucks though...

Yep, it's just one game. I would say the same had we won. It's a long way to December and a lot is going to happen between now an then.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.
