Can the GOP delay until after the midterms?

Jan 26, 2022, 1:29 PM

Doubtful, but things are close enough in the Senate that we shouldn't get anyone too crazy in there. The moderate Dems have been pretty good lately. But it would be hard for them to vote against a black female, and we all know that the Dems are all about appearances more than experience. I'd rather have a USSC full of competent white females or black males or a mix of latinos or whatever than have one that is engineered to be diverse and some may not be as equipped for the job as others. Their job is to interpret the US Constitution, not to make judgements about individuals, in which case diversity would have more significance. The Constitution is the Constitution, no matter your race or gender or whatever. At least we're replacing a lib with a lib, so nothing much will change ultimately.

I am hearing Ketanji Brown Jackson is probably the frontrunner right now.

Who knows what names we'll be hearing tomorrow.

Maybe we will finally get some forward momentum on reparations.

It's unfortunate, racist, and sexist that he would drastically reduce his pool of candidates based on race and sex.

Another lesson from the left. It's ok to choose someone based on race and sex.

Lordy. Did you read what I said at all?

I didn't say I loved it. I did say Joe opened his yap and promised it, and now he's boxed...and here we are.

Joe loses Clyburn's wing, he has about zero chance in the '24 Dem Primary. He could roll into that with, like, single-digit approval ratings.

Re: Can the GOP delay until after the midterms?

Jan 26, 2022, 2:52 PM [ in reply to Re: Can the GOP delay until after the midterms? ]

Well, yeah, but the problem is he already promised publicly that his next SC nominee, like his vice president, would be a black woman.

He goes back on that Clyburn's wing - who made Biden, we watched it happen right here in South Carolina, and it's abundantly obvious why, considering the promises Joe has made - would turn on Joe and absolutely roast him. And what limited support Joe currently enjoys would evaporate.

This is called "realpolitik", and it's how Washington has worked for a long, long time.

So it's going to be a black woman, though of course Joe is going to interview various other people of (other) colors just to be seen to be applying proper consideration. How politics goes. You don't offer a marker and not honor it, not in Washington you don't.

So unless there's skeletons in the closet, it's probably going to be Brown-Jackson or someone very much like her. She does have the bona fides. She's a Federal judge already, she clerked for the Supreme Court, and she's got a top "Well Qualified" rating from the ABA. (Trump's three candidates - Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney-Barrett all held that rating as well, so the bar thought they were all top judges too.) So it's hard to claim she's not qualified...and after that, it's all about the politics, and she seems to check all the boxes both in and out of the courtroom.

My guess is even Mitch isn't going to make much of a fuss about this one.

Hey, race over talents is Joe's Rule! Look at his incompetent cabinet! Sad but true. God knows who he will pick with that demented brain of his. Might even be Joy Reid. She's as nasty as a wounded rattlesnake! Purrfect fit for the Donkey Gang!
