Leaving the ACC

Everyone keeps mentioning that is what we need to do. I thought going forward that the power 5 conference champion had a seat in the playoffs. If that is true what makes the pasture so much greener in another conference. I understand more money as a reason but just because we join the SEC or Big ten doesn't mean we want be a Mississippi or Wisconsin and because of the tough schedule not make the playoffs year in and year out.

The grass is greener because it has more fertili$er.

At the end of the day it is all about the money. Just want to be on equal footing financially with the SEC and B18 or 20, or whatever they are up to now.

Yeah, I think it’s going to be pretty easy to make the top 12 by churning through the ACC. Getting in top 4 might be another story.

I’m seeing lots of posts nationally that there are only 2 power conferences now, and the ACC isn’t one of them. This has to be a problem for us eventually.

And that's the reason the B1G and sec will cherry pick the BigXII and ACC. At some point, the B1G and sec will merge and that will be it.

Money is one thing but what it leads to is the other, which is our competitiveness and being able to still recruit at a high level. Without the right talent, this thing goes south pretty quickly.

SEC and Big 10 are stacked now. They do not want Clemson so what's the point. Clemson would have trouble winning in those two. ACC forever, people complain about Syracuse and BC now!

Clemson would have less trouble winning in those two. Like all conferences they have a couple of good times and a bunch of mediocre teams. Don't buy the media hype.

1. We are now down to P4, not P5. And, who says the rules will remain the same? I expect within a few years the rules will change where there are no automatic bids, just 12 (or 16 or whatever the size of the playoff is) at large bids.

2. Even if the rules stay the same. 5 automatic bids and 7 at large bids. Those 7 bids will go to SEC or B1G. Say, 4 to SEC and 3 to B1G on most years. What is easier, to finish 5th in the SEC or to win the ACC?

Exactly. There will be 9-3 SEC and B1G teams making it. But they won’t do much in the playoff most years, other than make more money. The money is the big key. I could see an impressive looking 1 loss FSU or Clemson maybe getting a 2nd ACC bid occasionally, but not often.

Yes bc it was bama. Had Georgia beat bama FSU was in as evidenced by the committee leaving FSU in the top 4 the week prior. FSU only got bumped bc to put an SEC team in they had to put Texas in. Texas has way too much political and financial clout to snub them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Incorrect . If you didnt lose your starting QB then youd be in.

An argument could be made that the schedule wouldn't be tougher. Mizzu beat nobody 10-2, Ole Miss beat nobody 10-2, Penn St beat nobody 10-2, Iowa beat nobody 10-2.

Because we won't be able to compete in a world where the SEC and Big 10 are allowed to use TV money to pay their rosters

It would literally be impossible for us.

That and going to 12 won't matter. It will be 6 Big 10 and 6 SEC teams in it

If we can't make the playoffs because we could not beat top teams the first go round why would you want to do it on an even bigger stage. That has been my estimate.

I just saw a player interested in going to Florida State negotiating with the FSU NIL Collective for $1M in NIL.

I really don’t care if you call it NIL or the universities athletic budget. The NIL is “supposed” to be SEPARATE, no MINGLING of funds, but money is fungible as to how it is used. I have no doubts that this “mingling” of paid athletes with the “scholarship” athletes is corrupt as h311.

You have to pay to play. Some on T’Net have been contending that Clemson is FINE AND DANDY with NIL money, and that paying the players on the Clemson football roster payroll is NO PROBLEM. Okay..then, let’s see these 5*’s start rolling into Clemson as Clemson helps them roll in the dough.

I just don’t see it happening.

The entire portal/pay-to-play has me slowly disconnecting from the Clemson football team. To me, it meant something for these players to be playing for CLEMSON. Not anymore. The players have no allegiance, why should the fans or alumni of the university.

College football was a connection between the university’s alumni and the athletic department. It was a much different type of connection than what fans have with respective NFL teams. The NFL teams connection from fans is just some home town affiliation/association.

It is just so pathetic.

As bad as we need more revenue, I'm afraid we are stuck with what we got because that STUPID ### TV 13 year contract (or whatever term is) that ACC Commish negotiated.
