Leave the ACC?

3

Jul 30, 2023, 1:47 PM

Should that happen, we chose a more difficult route to CFP. So 10 years down the road, no national championships in football and the next generation wonders why we left ACC.

Why would you believe the B10 or SEC to be the more difficult route? Recruiting should be easier with a name brand conference plus NIL legislation should level the playing field

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And more $$ to help take pressure off boosters so…

Jul 30, 2023, 2:31 PM

They can then fund NIL more.

because the Albatross known as GOR certainly wasn't the right decision then or now. No matter what I think or feel others will be making this decision and it needs to be a good one.

Correct. The same idiots that agreed to the GOR are supposedly the geniuses that are finding a way out of it?

Don’t hold your breath. But who knows? Maybe Forrest Gump wasn’t just a movie.

The decision is in the hands of the SEC and ACC presidents/athletic directors. Nobody in the ACC has any control over it.

No one would complain about the GOR if the ACC wasn’t so far behind the other conferences. We’d be sitting pretty if we were on par with the SEC.

Imagine how much better we will be with Big 10 and SEC money, though.

Giving Dabo more resources to work with makes a lot of sense to me.

Stay in the ACC

2

Jul 30, 2023, 2:31 PM

and in 10 years when no playoff appearance happens because we can't afford to compete at a level that gets us there, and the next generation wonders how Clemson could have signed the stoopid GOR AND not leave when an opportunity was presented...again.

Jul 30, 2023, 2:38 PM

You're not playing with a full deck if that's what you believe. Clemson has repeatedly played in the CFP and won National Championships.

If Clemson stays in the ACC within 10 years we will be excluded from the CFP altogether.

Clemson will continue to play for National Championships, it just won't be as a member of the ACC. :)

I hope you are taking in consideration if Clemson was a SEC team, out recruiting would probably match the recruiting powers of Bama. We lose elite recruits every year only bc we play from the ACC. Kids actually love Dabo, and if Dabo was a HC in the SEC, they would love playing for Dabo over any other HC in the SEC!!!!

The tv contract would free up a lot more booster money to buy players though.

Winning 10+ games every year would not sustainable in the SEC, I get that, but the ACC seems to be a sinking ship. The GOR has the conferences hands tied until 2036.

As good as we already recruit being in either conference could be a difference maker in getting more 5 stars. Sure some high profile recruits do prefer to play in either the SEC or B1G in comparing it to the ACC.

MEG

Multiple Losses are going to be possible moving forward.

1

Jul 30, 2023, 9:41 PM

The idea of Clemson going undefeated may not be as likely. But, moving forward you can have multiple losses and still make the CFP.

The big question is: will a non-mega conference team even be considered? If so, would they have to be undefeated? Likely get the current G5 treatment though and they end up placing 2 or 3 loss mega teams in front of that team.

If they break from the NCAA - the super conference teams can have their own NC. Leaving the rest of college football to carry on traditional awarding of the National Championship by what's left of the NCAA.

Long story short; people are thinking current landscape instead of what we are moving to. That is more of a NFL style system where if you check certain boxes, you make the playoffs and get a chance to compete for the National Title. It just won't be called the NCAA National Championship if what everyone is saying happens.

In 10 years the ACC will either be gone or a reconstitution of the Southern Conference...

Jul 30, 2023, 9:48 PM

We have no choice right now. We must move quickly out of this ACC sinking ship. I know most prefer the SEC but if that’s not an option then the Big 10 it is! It doesn’t bother me because we only go to 1 away game a year and it’s usually one that we have to fly to so I would love to fly to see games at places we’ve never been. At the same time, I get why so many Tiger fans would be really disappointed that many away games are not drivable anymore. We’re just in a tough place right now and have to move where we can

And, "it's dog on cold in those places"!

Jul 30, 2023, 10:02 PM

The Big 10 has claimed for years that playing championships in warm domes or warm weather states is a disadvantage for them.

Going through a football season playing in the Big 10 would be a disadvantage for Clemson as it doesn't get nearly as cold in the upstate as some of the places we would have to compete at.

I still think we find a way and get it done. As our talent even now - pre-join is superior to most schools except OSU.

As it has been pointed out. The real disadvantage of it will be travel for fans. And travel budget - remember UCLA and Southern Cal are in the Big 10 as well. I am sure we would be in the Big 10 East; leaving basically UCLA, USC and Wisconscin to rotate(mostly S.C.) representing the west.
0 1 and 4 Stank (Ohio State) would have to see us to win the East. Michigan in most years is garbage. Penn State too. Ohio State "in most years" will have two or three games against a much lesser opponent they escape from. They won't be able to get away with that with us.

When FSU was great and Clemson knew any championships had to go through them; I think it made us better. Put us in the conference with OSU, Penn St and Meat Chicken(Michigan) and it will make us better. Our ability to recruit the South will enable us to dominate i.m.o.

I would say Michigan has been ok 3 to 10 years ago. Seeing how they beat us handily the last 2 years, I think their team has really becomea contender. Penn State, while not quite as good, has been a qb away for the last few years. We shall see what happens as they signed a 5* qb 2 years ago who has the opportunity to put them ovet the top. A white out in PSU is something to behold.
