trying something I've never done before, growing up in more southern growing zones...

put out some fall pre-emergent yesterday. found a herbicide that targets poa anna, hairy bittercress, and chickweed.

any y'all other transitioners do something like this? I reckon I shoulda asked yesterday, ya know, before I put it out, but yolo

fyt (I want my grass to look like this)

Brother I've fought my yard for YEARS.

All DIY. And it looked like shat.

I've since outsourced it and it looks GREAT. And it's probably not costing me much more.

I'd let a pro handle it.

I'm on the up and up

Aug 31, 2023, 11:40 AM

took about a year to stop the bleeding.

got a sprinkler system installed this year (this is actually what set me back, b/c all the weeds came in from where they dug up, and I never got around to re-seeding / re-sprigging the areas that were dug up, b/c mid-level sales)

have learned the art of sprigging mooda grass, fert, etc.

I told my wife I want a full calendar year from july 4th ish this year to get it fixed and I'll call in a pro.

next big project is leveling and over-seeding w/ some mooda grass next may-ish

Pre-emergents should be applied in late Feb/March

Right now, use a lawn friendly weed killer such as pic you can attach to hose

on her field.

Butt to agree with TRDJ, outsource it to juan of the million companies around and it'll be worth it. just don't use TrueGreen. Caught one of them bastages just walking a circle around my house and didn't do anything. Was there and left in like 5 minutes, then charged me for it. He didn't know I was home and watched him do it. Cancelled them and cussed them out.

What kind of grass? I typically overseed and crowd out in the fall. I try not to apply too many chemicals.

you over seedin w/ Fescue?

I'm not all-in on the fescue train. not conducive to playing with the kiddos, IMO.

Re: mooda

I use fescue. I like the look, but but is not the toughest grass. If you want to play some football with the kids, probably better going your route. Bermuda is hard to get rid of, which sounds good for your purposes. Be careful if you have gardens or mulched island type of area. It will spread into those areas.

Use rye up hyah for your overseed.***

kills everything but centipede. Even highway grass.

I let the highway grass grow this year though because my neighbor is a massive ##### and has to have his yard perfect. Guess who now has highway grass in his yard.

Are you sure it's your neighbor that's the #### neighbor?

they do all the mailbox pulloffs beside the road, then deliver something to your house with their tires covered in Bahiagrass seed stuck to them.

This is a great Bermuda guide. Although being in TN you would adjust for growing season.

Aug 31, 2023, 12:49 PM

It's an add-on service for our lawn guys, and I passed on it out of spite because I thought it should be included, but now I'm out there pulling clumps before I mow each week.

We got weird weeds up here man. I didn’t feel like relearning the proper chemicals and orders of application.
