Kentucky settling for Mark Pope

As their new basketball coach after striking out on Hurley, Oats, Drew, Donovan, Wright and maybe more.

Reminds me of Tanner’s twice-a-decade search to replace the coot football coach job. Lots of people don’t want it and then you have to settle for someone willing to take it.

But you would think the UK hoops job would still be able to attract a proven big name. I know their fans are next-level insane and attack coaches and their family members on social media. Maybe that bad behavior came back to bite them.

From ESPN:

“ Pope doesn't bring much high-level success, failing to win a regular-season or conference tournament championship during his nine seasons as a head coach. His teams also suffered upset losses in the first round of the NCAA tournament, losing as a 6-seed facing an 11-seed both times -- against UCLA in 2021 and vs. Duquesne last month.”

With a Sweet Sixteen and Elite 8 to his credit now, one could argue Coach Brownell has a better resume than Kentucky’s new coach.
