Just watched the replay of Wake game on ESPNU

and there is no way Mafah had a clear 6 -7 more yards when he went down on his own. A Wake guy was flying toward him and had a good chance to knock him out of bounds ( and he was very close to Mafah with a good angle when he went down).. Wake only had 2 timeouts and the 1st down clinched the fact that we could run out the clock.

Is yet another of the million better ways to spend your time vs going to a Darius Rucker concert.

I have never, and I will never waste a minute with plans to attend a Darius Rucker concert, not in this lifetime or another will I have to worry about doing something that stupid!!!

Darius Rucker EQUALS the sounds coming from a Hen house, and it's not called a concert!!!

that was my take and I stand by it... no way he gets knocked out of bounds either. The comment was about mentality and situational football. Since you watched it, how much time was left, how many timeouts did Wake have and how many more running plays did we run after that play.

He takes that guy on and he's down at the 15... as long he doesn't let the guy run him out of bounds and Mafah should be able to dictate contact and lower his pads to not be stood up.

If the idea in his head was not to go out of bounds and that was the decision, a little easier to swallow than the "keep the clock and end the game" crowd...

time: 1:24
timeouts: 2
plays after: 3 (two running plays by Mafah and Cade taking a knee)

I am not a fan of defensive football, it's a loser mindset and creeps into the psyche of the players to let up... we have to get a killer instinct on offense and execute at a very high level on every play in all three phases of the game for 60 minutes.

We had Travis stopped at the goal line in the FSU game but everyone stopped playing, like the play stopped, everyone stood there and Travis literally fell into the end zone... after 2 other miserable defensive plays that gave up 60+yards... short lapse before the half.

The offense goes into these funks... no idea what they are doing...

It was second and 6 at the 40 when the ball was snapped with 1 minute 29 seconds. That’s 89 seconds left.

When Mafah got to 20 yard line, he was surrounded by two Wake players and he was about a yard from out of bounds line. It was smart to take a knee and not risk a fumble on a tackle or stop the clock by going out of bounds. The refs stopped the clock on the at 1:21 because of first down. When they started the game clock, there was 31 seconds left on play clock - 81 seconds left in game. Wake chose not to use one its two remaining timeouts. At this point, Clemson can use 71 40+31) if Wake Forest uses both of its timeouts. So Clemson must use 9 seconds in live action. That is fairly easy to do over 4 plays.

The safest plan is to take a knee on the first three downs and not run Mafah which gave Wake a chance to strip. Clemson used 7 of the extra 9 seconds on first If there are a few seconds left on fourth down.

Wake called last time out with 43 seconds after 2nd down.

Running Mafah on first and second down was aggressive but risky.
