Even one that seemed to be a bubble off the level, and this lady seemed to be off a tad bit.

Yeah, ripping up pics of the Pope on SNL sent her career spiraling .. and showed everyone she was a bit of a nut ..

Right. Its "nutty" using your platform to protest and bring awareness about Catholic priests abusing young boys.

Except she admitted years later that wasn’t what she was protesting at all. It was all about her mother and what she viewed as an abusive relationship.

Selective use of the facts to defend a clueless tnet poster. She said both the abuse and hate for her mom motivated her.

Not defending anyone. Just pointing out what she herself said.
I loved her music, but she was a troubled young lady.

thing, on SNL but I was under the impression that at the time, it was a catholic vs. Protestant thing. I could very well be wrong, that was a good thirty or more years ago. I was mostly referring to things she had said in interviews, most notably about an interview she did, and started advertising for a sex partner. She was pretty explicit in what she was looking for. As bullbat crazy as some celebrities are, I can't recall any of them doing anything like that, but then again, I don't follow that crowd very closely. So yeah, I'd say she was unstable. It was also stated in the headlines of an MSNBC article, about her mental condition. So there ya go.

During an a cappella rendition of Bob Marley's “War,” Irish singer Sinead O'Connor tore a picture of Pope John Paul II in half. The act was a sign of protest against generations of abuse toward children within the Catholic church. In 1992, these terrible actions against children were far less known than they are today.

stunt had a much deeper meaning, which the singer detailed in her memoir, “Rememberings.”
“My intention had always been to destroy my mother’s photo of the pope,” she wrote. “It represented lies and liars and abuse. The type of people who kept these things were devils like my mother.”

As I said; it was 30+ years ago, and I could very well be wrong. Honestly; it doesn’t really make a hill of beans to me, why she did it, and I still don’t care. And I never said she was unstable, because she tore a picture of the Pope, some of her other actions led me to believe she needed help. However; at the time I didn’t think it was the smartest thing to do, to further her career. No matter who, what, why, or where she did it, it’s still a sad thing. A family has lost a member, that I’m sure they loved.

And then converting to that religion of peace: Islam.
Not sure cognitive consistency was one of her strong points.
Regardless, the woman had talent and, it seemed, a life long troubled.

Sorry to hear. I can’t help but remember the SNL skit where Phil Hartman played Frank Sinatra with Sinead O’Connor. “I’ve got chunks of guys like you in my stool”

I always thought she was old but she's only 10 yrs older than me. I think she had a son to die a year or two ago. Great voice. RIP

She was said to have attempted suicide several times before and threatened it after. Wouldn't surprise me if that's what happened. Very sad. She was a pretty good singer.

One of the British news websites says, "Sinead O'Connor has died at the age of 56 after years of mental health battles, her 'devastated' family confirmed." The article keeps mentioning her son who died of suicide last year and her sadness about being without him. Won't be a surprise to learn that she did too.
