Right wrong or indifferent, the committee has explained the choice using the “rules” stated before the selection. It is goofy they had them at #4 prior to winning the ACCCG, but the exclusion wasn’t arbitrary. Unfair funny business maybe, but there was a method behind their process.

You said it perfectly…”funny business!” So what if ESPN offered two committee members $1 million each to flip their votes from fsu to bama bc it would increase ESPN revenues by some ridiculous amount? Would that matter to you?

The Committee should be required to be transparent. Heck even Finebaum is saying that. Be transparent, show who voted how, show all of your correspondence about the vote, as requested, then yes if there was indeed no “funny business” they acted perfectly within the confines of their charge?

Viewership for Alabama games are on average 3X higher than for FSU games. That’s merely 1 thing. I guarantee you Alabama vs Michigan viewership will dwarf what FSU vs Michigan would’ve been, especially given FSU’s QB being out.

Plus, then there’s the ESPN SEC connection. Can you even fathom how much money ESPN has invested in the SEC succeeding? If the SEC is not in the playoff then ESPN is left out of the playoff, in a way of speaking. Not even an ACC team. Alabama is an “ESPN property” in a manner of speaking. Texas is a very near future “ESPN property!” This way they get two teams in to hype their investment. I’m not saying ESPN did anything wrong to try to influence the committee, other than spew SEC propaganda nonstop. But at the same time would it really surprise anyone if they did, with all they have at stake?

ESPN has already paid their money and received money for advertising far before the matchups were presented. They won't get more money depending on who is in the playoffs. In addition, you don't have any facts to back up those viewership figures.

Bama doesn't bring as much viewership as you're wanting to suggest they do, by the way. Also guarantee the current viewership would not "dwarf" a FSU/Michigan game. That's just spin zone nonsense.

Keep in mind that ESPN also has the ACCN so they're invested in the ACC as well. But, wait, that means they would want to not include the other teams...right?!

Could not find 2022 but it was the same. FSU likely was higher this year bc they were better but nowhere near bama. You honestly think ESPN has no stake in the SEC being relevant and the best conference? I cannot help you if that’s what you believe.

Here you go.

Again, as mentioned, contracts have been signed for advertisers, etc. They weren't waiting for the CFP announcement. ESPN will make no more money for Bama being in.

History shows that no matter the team in the CFP people will watch, there are no other games and the season is winding down. The highest rated CFP game had no SEC games, fwiw.

I love the "could not find but [trust me] it was the same!"

I also love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but this ain't it.

This right here is the truth. Mich/Bama ain't getting more eyes than Mich/FSU. Both were going to RAKE!

All I know is that FSU wouldn't really a partner I would endear myself to if I were a B1G or SEC school. Currently dealing with a partnership like this in real life, and it's a disaster.

Even with contracts signed, the ad rates are based off of actual viewers based off of Nielsen number.

Typically if the ratings aren’t as high as specified per the buy contract, the network has to make up the difference after the fact through make goods via free ads at a later date.

I don’t remember what happens if the ratings are better than anticipated but I believe the advertiser just benefits. Ads are purchased way in advance and then things are “settled” after the broadcast based on actual ratings.

Here is some info from Forbes:

Make-goods are “spot audience deficiency units” (ADUs) that networks offer to ensure an ad gets in front of the number of viewers that was agreed to. They are not reserved only for upfront buyers but are offered to all advertisers for many reasons, including ratings shortfalls or a preemption (think breaking-news story, presidential address) that results in the ad not airing.

It depends on whose numbers you use. When I said double the numbers from Ray Katz were in my head. But he has FSU higher too.

Ray Katz of Columbia University who teaches and runs a collegiate media sports management company on why they chose Bama instead of FSU…” The Crimson Tide averaged 7.3 million viewers over the 11 games tracked by Sports Media Watch. The dozen FSU games with available data averaged 4.2 million viewers.

“Every week that Alabama is on any kind of reasonable TV platform, they kick butt,” Katz said. “That’s just the reality of the situation…”

But viewership doesn’t matter right buddy?

Sure they would. With opt outs the Orange Bowl will be rather meaningless. The results will not be at all predictive of either team’s performance had they been selected in the playoff.

If the committee is transparent in this it will (should) simply show there was no collusion/corruption. Then, It all goes away. Show how everyone voted and turn over every committee person’s correspondence, hard drives, whatever. They have clear justification for voting how they did if they voted solely of their own volition within the confines of the criteria. But if committee members were offered special incentives or were barraged by ESPN or Disney execs or any entity set to gain monetarily by altering the vote, then everyone should want to know that. This is not hard. Turn over what they’ve asked for and show it was a clean process. Then this all goes away.

Florida State is UNDEFEATED Conference Champs. They should be in without a doubt.

Alabama is a 1 loss Conference Champ.
Texas is a 1 loss Conference Champ.

Texas defeated Alabama in the regular season.

The full regular season should matter.

In this scenario, strength of schedule and eye test be d@mned.

Alabama should be out.

is going to come of this Florida AG fishing expedition except Florida tax dollars being pizzed away on something that will not change the outcome one bit and will likely fail in court.

The CFP acted within the established rules, had data to support their stated reason for ranking FSU #5 and most importantly - was within their authority to do so. The Florida AG, FSU, and many others disagree with the CFP Committee but none of that matters - the CFP votes are the only ones that count.

was a 13-0 record with nothing else required to put them way ahead of a 12-1 UGA, Bama, and Texas team.

Never mind that in the last 2 games without Travis FSU's offensive production would rate them as the WORST total offense in all of FBS football... Guess the majority of CFP Committee members didn't ignore that fact but there were still enough committee members pushing FSUs 13-0 record that garnered them the #5 ranking...

This has nothing to do with trying to change what’s done or whine about how a vote went. They are looking for a legal way out of the GOR.

As with Clemson, a state university is losing tens of millions a year in potential media revenue by being in the ACC. 7th in viewership but gets penny’s on the dollar compared to Purdue and vandy. IF they can dig up any communication between ESPN and the CFP that shows collusion against an ACC team, there may be a case for breach of contract regarding the GOR prison the top ACC teams are in.
