Is it fair to say its about DJ's ceiling vs Cade's floor?

Sep 6, 2022, 7:43 AM

DJ has been in the program for three years. He had the advantage of learning from one of Clemson's best his first year. He was the starter, taking QB1 reps in Spring of '21, Fall Camp '21, all games in '21, Spring of '22, Fall Camp of '22 and started last night. I find it hard to get behind thoughts like "he's taking steps in the right direction" of that he is suddenly going to start getting significantly better. I think we have seen what we get with him.

Cade has been here 8 months and learned under DJ and has taken the QB2 practice snaps. The small glimpse last night seemed to confirm what he looked like as a prospect, and what has been reported about him through camp. Comfortable, confident, fluid, accurate.

I don't think it is likely that DJ is going to develop into a top tier QB at this level and not sure how we think he will progress substantially between now and Oct 1. It seems our best chance is to build on Cade for the next three games, get him ready and ride that horse through the tough part of our schedule. Why would you not?

I think CK has earned a series or two with the ones

in the next two games. He hopefully will get his chance earlier rather than later.

DJ is our QB and he played a very good game last night and that is the story.

To me it’s more about Cade’s ceiling than his floor. I don’t see DJ beating UGA, Bama, or Ohio State. And while it’s too early to say Cade definitely can, I think his odds are better.
