That was what I heard over and over from Riley.
Inconsistent may be a better description than I used when I said, "Look like they are working too hard."
The offense just can't seem to get into a rhythm or flow.
But, his description of "playing with 10" is coachspeak for "players not executing properly." All coaches will tell you that if 10 guys do their job and one guy screws up and he just to be "the right guy" the play is a bust. It's a polite way for a coach to point the finger at the player without calling out a name. There is no doubt that during tape study the player is pointed out and he sees where he screwed up along with everyone else in the room.
And, that is in no way excusing the coaches.
1. Players have to execute.
2. Coaches have to coach players so that they will execute.
Hopefully, the bye week will be a big help in this.
I sensed just a little frustration in Riley's voice when he talked about "unleash the plow horse" (or words to that effect). I took that to mean there are a lot of things he wants to do, plays he wants to call, but he can't call them as long as he is "playing with 10."

Nice commentary.
This has been my suspicion for quite some time. Our OCs have just been calling the plays they feel the players can handle.
As for the open date, the way I view it is, although the team will have a couple more days than normal, those extra days could still be far fewer days than needed to work out the problems. Last year's game against Notre Dame came after an open date, and we all know how that turned out.
That being said, I am hopeful they can solve some problems, but it is unlikely IMO that they solve them all, and I am by no means expecting that they solve any.

Maybe we had success with co-OC’s because it requires twice the coaching to get execution. We have been not executing on offense for going on 3 years- bottom line is we had generational talent on offense to overcome mistakes in the past and we do not anymore.

I agree. If players aren't properly executing the initial packages, the plow stays hitched.

As opposed to punt return team where “playing with 10” means the coaching staff literally does not have 10 men on the field.
