If you fix just one thing with our tigers, what would it be?

Oct 22, 2023, 10:01 PM

My answer would be we need team leaders. I don’t see or feel the leadership from players like we have in past teams.

We can talk all we want about coaches, play calls…etc…but does this team have the heart of other Clemson teams. Do we have the leaders to pick the team up? We just look flat!

A good OL and coach. It has made DJU look better this year.

Bingo. We desperately need an OL coach. RBs would have a hole to run through instead of trying to side-slide into a gap. DBs would cheat up more to defend the run letting our WRs get another step or two. OL coach has been the biggest whiff of a hire for Dabo, IMO.

I believe you are right, we don't have that Christian Wilkins or James Skalski in the locker room right now. What I saw last night was a team get shoved around all over the field on both sides of the ball. The offensive line couldn't protect Cade or get any push off the line, running lanes were non-existent. And when was the last time a team did a 9 minute 17 play sustained drive against us ending in a TD? And 15 of the 17 plays were runs! It's not like Miami did anything exotic, they just lined up and played smash mouth football.

So, what would the 1 thing I'd fix be? I'd try to instill pride back into this team. Pride that I'm not going to ever get pushed around, that we are going to instill our will on the other team. We are going to be the ones dominating the trenches, not getting pushed off the ball. I don't think our team has that Tiger pride anymore, or the fire that goes along with being the best. Mediocrity has set in and is accepted now.

Each player and coach needs to give a little bit extra.

It's a team of individuals. Some have more ability than others on the team and some have less ability than their opponent.
Bear Bryant has a famous speech for freshmen members of his team that sums it all up.
Each individual needs to give a little bit extra and never give less than their god given ability. When you play against someone who gives less than their ability, your team will WIN even though the other team might have more talent.

The Tigers need to get that mindset back.

ROSTER MANAGEMENT.

And I just don’t mean portal. In fact, I’m talking about the way we recruit high school kids and the mix of our rooms….15 is NOT ENOUGH for the OL room. Look at the overall performance of that group over the last 15 to 20 years. It’s an issue that has never seriously been addressed. It would be one thing if we were wildly succeeding in that area and all of our peers weren’t. In fact, the exact opposite is true. We literally play games with one hand tied behind our back with one of the most important position groups.
Doing things that our peers would never dream of doing. Occasionally we have enough skill and enough experience to make it work. Most years we don’t.

With that said, we don’t need a major overhaul, just meaningful tweaks. Need to offer a bit more kids a little bit earlier as well so we aren’t screwed when we miss out on our top targets.

The landscape has changed. What made Clemson very attractive a few years ago doesn’t apply inseveral ways now Change is coming and from what I know Dabo is on board. Just been too slow to adopt.

With all that said…there is a reason why kids like Wesco and Moore are on board. You are starting to see the fruits of seeds, planted not long ago. However, there is going to be some pain in the interim.

Didn’t have to be this way, but it is where we are currently

Offensive line play. It makes everything else work.

The o-line.

You can have average qb, Rb, wr and still win games with a dominant OL

We need an across-the-board upgrade of position coaches.

2016 coaching experience not including HC was 216 years total
2023 coaching experience not including HC is 57 years total

Seems pretty obvious to me.

I would be scouring NCAA and NFL for every single failed coach who got promoted to beyond his ability because he was excellent in the previous position and hire them at what they were excellent at doing. I would clean house of everything beneath OC and DC just as a starting place. My goal would be to stack the coaching staff with 250 years of proven coaching experience. Top programs are not where you develop coaches. Furman is where you develop coaches not Clemson.

Dabo is risking getting booted if he does not do something drastic. People will find a way to get rid of you if you destroy the beloved Clemson football program.

Cade decision making

Oct 23, 2023, 11:50 AM

1) Run the called play if no option and or availability to audible

2) If RPO then think of the situation. Example - FSU gsme - 3rd and 1 (I think) - rather than run the ball throws quick it for no gain or loss.

Re: Cade decision making

Cade’s awareness of where he is on the field is stil not good. On one INT earlier in the year he tried to throw it away but was too far from the sideline to get it there and it got picked. Saturday night he was tackled for a safety that somehow didn’t get called. It was like he didn’t seem to even realize where he was on the field.

Not that Clemson is or close to a playoff team but with a OL that has any kind of heartbeat this team would be undefeated right now .

OL
There is a lot of stuff but if our OL was good it would reduce the effects of most of the other things.

Hire experienced college coaches and not former players and friends of Dabo. Look at each players coaching resume, if no experience at college level keep looking til things stack up. Lack of coaching experience is what’s hurting this team
