let’s see if they have truly passed us by beating us 2-3 years in a row. Beating us once doesn’t mean you have passed us when we have dominated all those teams for a decade. Yes, we should be concerned, but I am still hopeful tuings are coming together to finish strong tii hill is year and build momentum into next year.

The past doesn't factor into the present. And it was more than "the perfect storm." They beat us by 21 points. And you can say our offense gifted them 14 of those points, but that's the types of mistakes Duke hasn't made all year. So yeah.. they've passed us.

I posted this several times.
We no longer have the advantages we once had in recruiting:
1. More of the big teams are running more pass oriented offenses that they were 10-12 years ago. Teams like Alabama and LSU were playing smash mouth football. Alabama had Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron at quarterback. Ohio St was running the Tim Tebow offense with Braxton Miller and JT Barrett.
Then Alabama changed their offense, and their last three quarterbacks were all first round picks: Tua, Mac Jones, and Bryce Young. Ohio St changed their offense and their last two quarterbacks were first rounders: Justin Fields and CJ Stroud. When we first hired Chad Morris, that offense was unique, and it offered opportunities to skill players (particularly receivers) they didn't get at these other schools. Well, now most of the other big teams are running more wide open offenses, so we no longer have any advantage recruiting against them.
2. Clemson was one of the first schools to use social media in recruiting. Now, other big schools are using it. A few years ago, Ohio St. even hired one of the guys from our staff to run their social media operation. Again, we lost an advantage we used to have.
3. Dabo's "player's coach" style is no longer unique. Even 80 year old Mack Brown dances in the locker room now.
Basically, we don't have any of the unique advantages we used to have in recruiting, so now we have to go against Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St., etc straight up. That's we aren't getting the elite recruits like we did in the past.
And now we don't have as much NIL money like the other schools, which causes problems even if you do try to use the portal.

That’s a big issue. It sounds like Dabo has fallen into the trap of believing that what has worked in the past will always work. That’s dangerous.
What if Apple stopped innovating? Soon enough, they wouldn’t be the leader that they are.

It's not that they have "stopped." If innovating was easy, everyone would do it.
I'm sure they are trying, but it's hard to consistently build a better mouse trap. To use your Apple example, Apple simply isn't as innovative as they were years ago. The standalone mp3 player was a new device that didn't previously exist. The smart phone was a device that didn't previously exist. Apple isn't really coming out with new devices that didn't exist before. Now they pretty much just upgrade the existing products that they already have.

Innovating doesn't just magically happen. You might do 100 different things before you find the one that works.
That's the entire problem. Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St., LSU, etc., don't HAVE to innovate. The can still win with status quo. We can't.

Please quit beating the transfer portal dead horse. I don’t think Louisville or Miami has passed us, but the other three do have better quarterback play than us right now. The transfer portal players are usually either quitters or free agents and I don’t really want any of them. Can they make us better? Yeah there is a chance a portal player could make Clemson better but no guarantees. I know I am naive but I am going to keep my head in the sand thinking Clemson is recruiting and winning the right way and all the other teams especially transfer teams are cheating or using the new rules to their advantage. That statement was dumb. That said, most of the players in the transfer portal are not elite, and that's the only thing that will help us.

They are quitting on the team that recruited them when they transfer for greener pastures or “money”. Yes there are a few exceptions with extenuating situations but probably not many.

If you don’t like it and I don’t like it we can agree on that. My principles of why I don’t like the changes will not waiver so I will not embrace the portal. I will say going back to making players sit out a full year could change the portal madness but I am starting to feel like I am in the minority against the portal usage.

As of 2023 the only team on the list that has passed Clemson might be FSU. Let's see how the year plays out. I believe Clemson needs to use the portal to fill a few needs. FSU could go 7-4 next year but Clemson will be a very good team. Don't judge a program on one season.

inexperience QB behind center. Dabo should have played Cade early and often last season but he put his hope on DJ who failed miserably to deliver as hoped for. We haven't had a QB with that much playing time since Tajh Boyd who practically had no talent behind him.
Cade is the foundation of our offensive woes. He will become a great QB at or before the end of this season.

Lost the TO battle against Duke and FSU. Not only did we lose it we gave up points off of the TO’s. Not a recipe for success.
