I think we are at the funeral procession

of a sport we once loved dearly. The reality of what we’ve lost hasn’t truly set in yet.
For many years I longed for that first kickoff, the smell of grills smoking up the tailgates, the anticipation of another great season but the unknowns of how it might actually go gave me the butterflies. College football was all about amateur athletes who competed for the love of the game. Slowly we are witnessing this change and become about the thing that ruins everything, money!
While all is not lost, this sport has morphed into something entirely different, almost unrecognizable at times from what it used to be. I hope that Clemson football can survive this while still keeping its spirit in tact.
The thing that aggravates me and a lot of others about Dabo is the same thing myself and others should probably cherish. I think resistance to change will probably lose out to change itself in the not too distant future, but for now we should embrace and literally savor these moments. I don’t think it will be long before they will be memories.
Enough philosophical nonsense, I just woke up this morning feeling my age.
Go tigers! Beat GT

I found it really rich that Dion Sanders said the NCAA should reimburse his players for the stolen items out of the locker room in LA. He said, “these are just kids, they don’t know anything about taking out an insurance policy”. They may be kids, but they know how to “shake down” the system for millions in NIL money. I believe at least 3 of Colorado players earn in excess of $1 mil. You can’t have it both ways.

The amount of coaching and pampering and opportunities given to turn these boys into men, it’s amazing any of the rest of us made it at all.

Maybe if they had a coach who really was looking out for them he might have talked to them about insurance in the first place.

It also does make you wonder how a locker room would not have better security and protection, especially in their own stadium.

Maybe it was an inside job. Those private stadium security companies will hire just about anyone. They have to hire just about anyone because the jobs don't pay much.

That’s on the NCAA. Mandatory financial counseling and possibly a passing grade before the first check is cashed would have been in order. At least they could have pretended any of this was still about education

The NCAA has nothing to do with education. See UNC.

It's up to each university and athletic administration. Just like the federal government rarely works, the NCAA does not work.

If they think the Rose Bowl security wasactually negligent or derelict, they can certainly send a demand letter for compensation or litigate if they think the facts and law warrant it. But just making a public demand as if they are entitled to have reimbursement upon demand just b/c they say so is a self-absorbed a joke. Obviously the criminals are ultimately responsible, but unless the Rose Bowl was negligent then this was a breaking and entering and they owe the players nothing.

Terrible logic. What amount of knowledge should someone have before they are allowed to earn money?
Some of you are so hypocritical it's scary. Maybe you should move to North Korea if you don't like to see people making money in a free market.

where the food is good, the drinks are cheap and the music fantastic. And you know that it can't remain unknown forever, it's just a matter of time before a lot of other people find out about it. And in a way you're happy about that because others can share in something that you really enjoy.
But that also changes something about what you love about it.

that is what is being lost. They are becoming free agents now, not students.

No student athletes anymore in football. Once you get a check to play you are not a student athlete. You are an employee.

If money is going to destroy the game why should Clemson help that by playing along rather than dying with integrity intact?

I’m deeply conflicted. On one hand I ##### about Dabo not keeping up with the times and changing and on the other I don’t want things to change anymore than he does. I guess that what dawned on me, I’m not mad at him I’m mad at the way things are.
Ultimately we will have to change but I’m going to try and enjoy this as long as we can ride it out before we become NFL Light

It wasn’t millions. 5-10k here, 5-10k there. Now we are talking 7 figures strait out of high school. I’m not even saying they’re not worth it, I’m saying schools with more money will simply have the best teams. Even the NFL knows better than to allow such

What are you complaining about specifically? That an adult is now allowed to make money off of his own name? The NCAA never should have been able to stop that.
If it was the actual universities paying these students it would be different. I don't see Cade signing a deal with Beats By Dre as any different than him going out and getting a job at Subway.
It seems a lot of the complaining about NIL is due more to ignorance rather than an actual legitimate complaint.

disingenuous at best particularly now that we know that NIL only exists in that organic state for mere seconds before corruption, fronts, workarounds, coercion, & farms denature NIL. Not to mention the symbiotic relationship with the transfer portal compounds the aforementioned problems–

Everyone was against thr “Super Confernces” idea but to be honest that may be the only thing that saves the game we love… i know it’s very unlikely but if all of these schools once formed this super league decides to break away from the ncaa and do their own thing is unfortunately the only thing that can save it long term… the ncaa is a spineless organization that makes the dumbest decisions without thinking down the road… prob will never happen but could.
