Back then, they'd sneak beach balls in to graduation. So when a half dozen beach balls took over the ceremony, the well-meaning president stepped to the podium and said

I try not to be a prude, but that was really classless. Granted, college graduation ceremonies are always corny and impersonal, plus the value of a college degree has become watered down and much less special than it once was. But still, show some respect. What he did was an insult to everyone else at the ceremony, to the institution, and to the value of the degree he and his classmates were receiving. Just an entitled celebrity who gets to act like he's better than everyone else around him, and the people there let him get away with it. That was childish behavior, and it was very weak of the administrators to go along with that. It wasn't funny or cool.
