I had a long talk with my dad today...

He's a very smart man and he's done well in life. He's also fairly conservative. We were kinda talking about politicians and politics a bit.

We do agree that politicians, in general, don't vote in the people's interests - both sides of the aisle. No matter what we disagree on, we always agree on that. We need to somehow get the money out of politics.

Feels like more about culture wars than anything substantial. When I was younger I do remember repubs and dems negotiating and working together more. Now, it's like no one has any decency.

Maybe it's just me.

Pretty spot on. The way to fix it is term limits IMO. Serve two terms and go home.

Why 2 terms? One 4 year term then move on.

I have a friend who was Governor and he pointed out that the term limit should not be too short so there is time to learn the ropes. Otherwise, the staff would , in actuality, be running things.

as weak as it is there is.

Without it, it will be 4 years or however long of get what I can in the legislature then get rewarded with overpaid consulting gigs from the companies etc they helped.

No way we can get conservatives and liberals completely together. There are just too many different opinions. But you want that right? I have always felt like we need a balance.

What we don't need are people with deep pockets determining the winners and losers of elections.

Citizens United needs to go away. That ruling left the doors wide open for corruption.

There's an alternative to Term Limits

Jun 19, 2023, 9:10 AM [ in reply to Re: I had a long talk with my dad today... ]

Fire them by voting them out. It's just that the voters have to do their part. No more voting for your party. Every 4 years, vote for the other guy.

The Democrats are trying to make us a socialist country. Less God and more government. Capitalism has its problems but is better than the alternative. To many people want the easy way out and don't want to work. This is the greatest country in the history of the world. It's not perfect but better than all the rest. So many people believe you can have total government control and freedom together. This country is great because of opportunities that capitalism provides. Hard work and good decisions can lead to a prosperous life.

Is all about power! There’s no sharing power. Parties can’t stand not having full control.
