Does your company allow you to go negative with PTO?

For paid time off, if you have 8 hours/1 day built up and take 2 days off, what happens? Do they dock your pay, not let you take the 2nd day off, etc.?

Just curious as to what is out there with other companies.

We get up to 40 hours negative with a manager's approval***

You know what's funny about that? -40??

-40 Fahrenheit is the same as -40 Celsius. Isn't that a hoot?

Since F = (9/5) X C + 32

We don't have PTO anymore -but when we did - it was a wink and a nod

This is my 1st salaried job earning PTO each pay period. I thought I was doing well having 50+ hrs left this late in the year until I talked to someone last week that has 500. Im not doing something right.

You want to have as little PTO left as possible because that means you aren't addicted to work and actually enjoying life. Some people though....

I would say having very little PTO available is actually winning. Who

unused PTO rolls over and you lose the 2 personal days.

Right now I'm at 40 days of PTO and one personal

But the real reason they changed it on like a rando Tuesday was because we had a big layoff the next week and they didn't want to pay out earned PTO.

I had like 6 weeks of PTO/year then they did the "unlimited" thing, but through in a "but if you use more than 3 weeks please talk to your manager" part.

So essentially they just just dropped it down to 3 weeks PTO/year for everybody. When we got bought last year they officially made it 3 weeks for everyone here less than 5 years, and 4 weeks for anyone here more than that.

When we got switched they paid out the owed hours.

I'd think they'd get sued for zeroing out banked hours.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah the math on that one maths out in the company's favor

apparently there's some psychology in it that people use less PTO time when it's unlimited vs quantified

Sucks because you don't get paid for unused time.

I was up to 5 weeks and heading towards 6 when they switched to "unlimited"

#### that.

Told my boss I was taking every other Monday off and he said I couldn't but it's almost exactly 5 weeks which is what I had before...

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They did roll ours into a bank and they will pay it out when we leave

but at the rate we were at when we switched to unlimited pto. I think I have had it for at least two years so when you do the math with all the raises I have had, I lose out on like 1.3%*
